MIAMI – Robbie Keane began his transition to full fitness on Saturday with a 45 minute shift in 3-1 win over Juventus, and the LA Galaxy’s captain expects to move further along during Wednesday’s match against AC Milan.

Prior to his second half shift against Juventus that saw him tally a goal in the victory that catapulted LA into the Guinness international Champions Cup Third Place match, Keane had not played since the Galaxy’s July 14 defeat to the Portland Timbers due to a left hip flexor strain.

This week, the Irish forward has trained both days during the club’s mini-training camp at Florida International University. After going 45 minutes against Juventus, Keane is ready to move forward in his progression with his eye set firmly on starting against FC Dallas on Sunday.

“For me, [the game] comes at a good time because I’ve been injured and I can get some minutes under me belt to get match fitness back,” said Keane. “I feel good and I went 45 minutes [against Juventus] and I’ll probably go 70 or 65 minutes [against AC Milan]. Then I’ll look forward to Sunday’s game.”

MIAMI – Landon Donovan is quite familiar with new LA Galaxy goalkeeper Jaime Penedo due to their tussles at the international level, but now that the Panamanian ‘keeper is a part of LA, the forward is pleased to have him on board.

Penedo and Donovan have battled numerous times over the years as the 31-year-old ‘keeper and the 31-year-old forward began their international careers with Panama and the U.S.  at around the same time.  Their most recent meeting came just last month when the Donovan-led U.S. National Team defeated Pinedo’s Panama 1-0 in the 2013 CONCACAF Gold Cup Final.

Both players ended the tournament with plenty of individual honors as Donovan took home the tournament’s Golden Boot award for leading goalscorer and Golden Ball for the competition’s most valuable player while Penedo earned the Golden Gloves for best ‘keeper.

“I've Jaime from a distance for a long time. He’s been with Panama for many years now, and I remember him when he was a young guy, and he'd probably say the same about me,” said Donovan. “We've sort of grown up through these qualifying and Gold Cups together. It’s nice to see him. He looks like a friendly and nice guy, and hopefully he can help us.”

MIAMI – The LA Galaxy have added another goalkeeper to the mix in Jaime Penedo, who signed officially with the club on Monday.

Penedo trained with the club on Monday at Florida International University and will be available on Wednesday for the Galaxy’s Guinness International Champions Cup Third Place match against AC Milan.

The 31-year-old Panamanian international was last with C.D. Municipal in Guatemala, but joins the Galaxy after a successful stint at 2013 CONCACAF Gold Cup that saw him earn the tournament’s Golden Gloves as the top goalkeeper.

Following training on Monday, Galaxy head coach Bruce Arena offered his thoughts on the Panamanian  ‘keeper.

“He’s a good goalkeeper. I followed him for years with Panama,” said Arena. “He’s got a lot of experience; he probably has between 85 and 90 international caps. We think that he’ll help strengthen the goal position for us.”

According to Sports Illustrated's Grant Wahl, the LA Galaxy's may be ready to lock down Omar Gonzalez to a contract extension by using their vacant third Designated Player spot.

In his story about new Seattle Sounders FC signing Clint Dempsey, Wahl writes that the Galaxy, Seattle and Toronto FC were on the U.S. National Team captain's shortlist, but LA ceased to be a contender as "Los Angeles is expected to announce soon that it has filled its maximum three DP slots with the extension of Omar González's contract."

When reached for comment by LA Galaxy Insider, a club spokesperson stated that “Omar is a very talented player and keeping him in a Galaxy uniform is a priority for us. We will continue to have conversations with him as the season progresses.”

Expect Gonzalez to become a third Designated Player? Would you want him to stay if it meant that he was the Galaxy's third DP?

LOS ANGELES – The excitement in Dodger Stadium through, the LA Galaxy will now turn their sights to Miami.

LA will stay for the next week in South Florida as they take part in the Guinness International Champions Cup third place game against either Chelsea or A.C. Milan. This training camp of sorts offers the team one last moment to bond before the congested autumn schedule that will see the Galaxy look to qualify for the MLS Cup Playoffs and advance from the group stages of the CONCACAF Champions League.

“Now we get a week together in Miami and I think that it’ll be really important because it’s a nice midseason training camp for us to get back together, get back on the same page, and get ready to make a run for a third championship in a row,” Donovan said.

As for any concerns of fatigue as the Galaxy prepare for their fourth match in four states over the course of two weeks, defender Omar Gonzalez insists that it won’t be an issue.

“It’ll be a long flight tomorrow, but I’m sure that our staff is going to get us ready to play on Wednesday,” said Gonzalez.

LOS ANGELES— The Italian media held no punches for Juventus manager Antonio Conte following their 3-1 defeat to the LA Galaxy.

In fact the first question for the manager was a simple one? “Are you ashamed by the result tonight?”

To which Conte offered an expansive response in Italian.

“The performance was not good,” Conte said through a translator. “We need everybody to wake up. I put myself first on that list. If we think we don't need hard work and determination anymore, we're not going to get far. We have great players, we have a high-quality roster, but in these last two years we have always gone beyond our limits for the artwork and determination we've shown on the field. We need to return to that mentality.”

Juventus are now 0-2-0 during their tour of the U.S. and will be playing in the seventh place game against an undetermined opponent on Tuesday. As Conte looks to get his club ready for their Italian SuperCup match against Lazio on Aug. 18 and the start of the league a week later, he implored his squad to focus.

“I think it's reductive to say that this loss is caused by the fact that we're in preseason and it's just a friendly,” Conte said. “We're here in LA, it's a fancy place, we have parties. Everything is very fun. But everywhere you go to play, all over the world, if you don't show the determination on the pitch, you're going to have big problems and, as happened tonight, you're going to lose the game. That's the rule of soccer.”
