The LA Galaxy have yet to start their preparations for the 2014 MLS Regular season, but the Galaxy’s opponents for the 2013-14 CONCACAF Champions League Club Tijuana are in the midst of their Liga MX season.

Tijuana fell on Saturday 2-1 to Liga MX rival Pachuca to 1-1-1 in their first three matches of the season. Xolos host Monarcas Morelia on Friday at Estadio Calliente. Cristian Pellerano placed Xolos out in front six minutes into the match, but two second half goals from Los Tuzos’ Emer Valencia and Walter Ayovi proved too much for Tijuana. Americans Herculez Gomez, Edgar Castillo, Joe Benny Corona, and Paul Arriola each made appearances in the defeat.

Meanwhile in other Liga MX news, Galaxy Homegrown forward Jose Villarreal has yet to make his first team debut for Cruz Azul after failing to make the game day roster during their 1-0 victory over Chiapas.

Highlights of Tijuana’s defeat are below.

The LA Galaxy will have another chance to bolster their roster on Tuesday afternoon as the 2014 MLS SuperDraft comes to an end with the final two rounds.

Unlike the first two rounds which were held in Philadelphia last week, the final two rounds will take place via conference call on Tuesday. The Galaxy hold just a single pick in the final two rounds, the 72nd overall selection in the fourth round, which was acquired in the deal that sent goalkeeper Bill Guadette to the New York Red Bulls.

Both of LA's natural selections in the third and fourth rounds were dealt away in trades. The third round selection was sent to the Philadelphia Union as the conditional pick for forward Chandler Hoffman while the fourth round choice was traded away in 2010 to the Houston Dynamo to move up in Stage Two of the 2010 MLS Re-Entry Draft as the Galaxy went on to select Juan Pablo Angel.

Among the talent available in the final two rounds is a host of local players from Southern California colleges. Headlining the SoCal contingent is UC Irvine midfielder Enrique Cardenas, who was a former LA Galaxy Under-23 and 2013 Big West Midfielder of the Year, four-time All-Pac 12 selection Victor Chavez, a forward out of UCLA, and UCSB defensive midfielder Fifi Balden. All three players were projected by many to be late first or early second round selections.

For more potential selections, MLSsoccer.com has provided a list of the best available players at each position.

Bruce Arena told reporters earlier this week that the LA Galaxy are nearing a deal with a foreign wide player and according to reports out of Sweden, the Galaxy are closing in on the signature of 31-year-old Swedish winger Stefan Ishizaki.

According to Fotbollskanalen.se's Olof Lundh (who some of you might remember as the man who broke the story of Christian Wilhelmsson's move to the Galaxy back in 2012), LA is nearing a deal with the wide midfielder who is currently with IF Elfsborg in the Swedish first division (Allsvenskan).  A right midfielder, Ishizaki  tallied two goals in 27 appearances for Elfsborg during the 2013 season, making a total of 25 starts.

The competition for minutes among the LA Galaxy forward corps promises to be heated after the club made two major additions over the past week.

Earlier this month, the Galaxy acquired Brazilian forward Samuel on loan from Brazilian club Fluminense and Canadian international Rob Friend to add further depth to the attck. Prior to the 2014 MLS SuperDraft, I caught up with Galaxy head coach and general manager Bruce Arena to discuss the additions as well as the implications of the Hector Jimenez trade.

PHILADELPHIA – The LA Galaxy have been wheeling and dealing over the last two weeks and don’t expect them to stop there.

On Wednesday, Galaxy head coach and general manager Bruce Arena told LA Galaxy Insider that the club was hoping to add another player to their roster over the last two weeks to fill the spot vacated by Hector Jimenez who was traded to the Columbus Crew on Monday.  Ahead of Thursday’s MLS SuperDraft even more details emerged as the Washington Post’s Steve Goff reported that LA had secured the signature of a foreign wide midfielder.  The position of the unnamed player is of particular interest as wide depth is a concern for the Galaxy heading into preseason with just three players (Landon Donovan, Robbie Rogers and Gyasi Zardes) expected to fight for the two starting spots on the flanks.

Although Arena refused to give any details on the player’s identity, he believes that the new signing will add to roster that is starting to take shape ahead of the preseason.

“We think that we’ll get someone over the next week and hopefully strengthen our team as well,” Arena told reporters.

“We’re getting close to where we want to be with our roster,” Arena later added. “There can always be a change or two but we’re getting close.”

PHILADELPHIA – The LA Galaxy added a new center back in Kyle Venter at the 2014 MLS SuperDraft, but according to Bruce Arena LA will be adding two more Homegrown Players in Raul Mendiola and Bradford Jamieson.

Mendiola, an attacking midfielder and former Galaxy Under-18, made nine appearances for the Galaxy reserves in 2013. Jamieson, a forward, has scored two goals in 10 appearances with the Galaxy Under-18’s this season and made three appearances for LA’s reserves last year.

Arena revealed the news following LA’s selection of Venter on Thursday and also alluded to another potential Homegrown signing.

“We signed a new player this year in Raul Menidola and Bradford Jamieson and we’ll probably sign another one in the near future. We believe in the Homegrown Players,” said Arena at the 2014 MLS SuperDraft on Thursday.

The LA Galaxy added to their centerback with the 23rd overall pick in the 2014 MLS SuperDraft by selecting New Mexico center back Kyle Venter.

A four-year starter out of New Mexico, the 6-foot-3 Venter led the Lobos to the College Cup semifinals while also being a semifinalist for the MAC Hermann Trophy in 2013. Venter became the first player in New Mexico's program history who was named to three All-America teams.  The 22-year-old defender ended his time with the Lobos as the progam's all-time leader in minutes played.

Just where Venter fits into the squad remains to be seen, however, as the Galaxy currently boast five string center backs in Omar Gonzalez, Leonardo, Kofi Opare, and Tommy Meyer.

A videos of Venter's time with New Mexico and the moment that he was drafted are below.
