HARRISON, N.J. – Omar Gonzalez’s contract with MLS expires in December, but the LA Galaxy center back admitted that he has had some talks with the Galaxy about potentially extending his stay in MLS.

Gonzalez is in the midst of yet another strong season with LA and currently appears poised to become a regular on the U.S. National Team after starting their last three World Cup Qualifiers. Interest is expected to be high for the former MLS Defender of the Year, who revealed prior to U.S. World Cup qualifier against Mexico in March that Mexican giant Club America has kept tabs on him over the past year. Keeping Gonzalez on the squad is expected to be a top priority for the Galaxy and according to a report that surfaced in April, LA is not averse to making him a Designated Player.

Following LA’s 1-0 defeat to the New York Red Bulls on Sunday, Gonzalez admitted that he has spoken to LA about a new deal.

“There has been some talks [with LA]. I went to lunch one day and started that process, but that’s about as far as it’s gone,” Gonzalez told reporters. “Right now, I’m just worried about playing and I’ll let my agent take care of that. Hopefully, we can figure something out.”

Pleased to hear that Gonzalez has spoken to the Galaxy about a new deal? Should LA make him a Designated Player?

HARRISON, N.J. – LA Galaxy head coach Bruce Arena discussed the LA Galaxy’s disappointing 1-0 defeat to the New York Red Bulls.

Arena’s quotes are below…

(On the goal by Tim Cahill…)

ARENA: “That’s not good. That play tonight shouldn’t happen. That’s 90% goalkeeper ball there.”

(On what is happening late in the game…)

ARENA: “You saw that goal; we had plays the other way to get a goal too…You have to make a play; they made a play, we didn’t; that’s the difference in the game. That game should be one point. That’s a real good effort; we played pretty well for the third game in a week traveling all over the country. I’m disappointed for our players because we certainly played well enough to get out of here with a point.”

(On Rafael Garcia’s performance…)

ARENA: “Solid job. He did a good job for his game with extended minutes.”

(On the foul by Gyasi Zardes that set up the free kick being a “rookie mistake”…)

ARENA: “Well, the referee didn’t have to call it either. It was maybe not a foul, but we just have to make the play on the restart. That ball was headed in from four or five yards out. That’s our goalkeeper’s ball.”

(On the road trip…)

ARENA: “I’m very disappointed not having a minimum of four points in the road trip even though it was a good effort from our guys. Our guys played pretty well (today) given the fact that most of them were pushed for the third game in a week. I can’t argue with their effort.”

David Beckham's storied career ended on Saturday as he exited in the latter stages of Paris St-Germain's 3-1 victory Brest.

Beckham donned the captain's armband for the match and was visibly emotional as he stepped off the field in the 81st minute.

UPPER MONTCLAIR, N.J.—Omar Gonzalez earned yet another call to the U.S. National Team on Thursday as he was named to Jurgen Klinsmann’s 26-man roster for their upcoming training camp in Cleveland.

The camp, which begins on May 26 -- Gonzalez is likely to arrive on May 27 after LA's match with Seattle Sounders FC on the day camp opens -- will also serve as the U.S. roster for a busy five game stretch between May and June that will see Klinsmann’s squad play three World Cup Qualifiers and two friendlies.  The news comes as little surprise as Gonzalez seemingly locked down a starting role after starting the last three qualifiers in central defense for the U.S.

Following the LA Galaxy’s training at Montclair State University, Gonzalez discussed his latest national team call.

“The national team called and it’s always exciting to be able to represent your country and another opportunity for me to go in and hopefully do well, and hopefully play,” said Gonzalez. “I’m taking this just like I did last time and I’m going to work hard to do anything that I can to help the team qualify for Brazil.”

UPPER MONTCLAIR, N.J. –LA Galaxy head coach Bruce Arena has seen many of his former assistants or players take full-time head coaching gigs and the latest is New York Red Bulls boss Mike Petke.

It was Arena, who gave Petke his first of two national team appearances in 2001 while the Galaxy boss was the coach of the U.S. National Team. Arena also faced off against Petke multiple times during his coaching tenure in MLS and will take on his former player when the Galaxy meet the Red Bulls meet on Sunday.

True to his role as the standard-barer for American coaches, Arena admitted that he was pleased Petke became the head coach at Red Bull Arena.

“It’s great to see some of our former players in the league in coaching positions,” Arena told reporters following LA’s training at Montclair State University on Friday. "Mike is basically a hometown boy, so it’s great to see that the Red Bulls have one of their own coaching the team.”
