CARY, N.C. – There will be no Landon Donovan, Omar Gonzalez or Robbie Keane for the LA Galaxy on Wednesday, but the club will have plenty weapons when they take on the Carolina RailHawks in their U.S. Open Cup Third Round match.

Headlining the club’s squad will be young forward Jose Villarreal as well as fellow Homegrown forward Gyasi Zardes and 2013 MLS SuperDraft first round pick Charlie Rugg. Villarreal did not partake in the U.S. Under-20’s Toulon tournament in France in order to be available for the Galaxy and is likely to earn a start on Wednesday.

“It’s going to be another good test for us. Coming into this game, the thing in mind is kind of a revenge type thing. They’re pumped to play us and the crowd is going to be influencing them so it’ll be a test for us,” Villarreal told LA Galaxy Insider. “Of course, we’re taking this seriously. We want to win and the thing that motivates us even more is to get our revenge and beat them back and take them out of the tournament like they did us.”

With the RailHawks defense conceding just eight goals in their six league matches this season—second best in the NASL—Villarreal knows that he’ll face considerable pressure from the Carolina defense, but he’s looking to contribute.

“If I play or not, however, way that I can contribute to the team will be important for me and important for the team,” said Villarreal. “If I can score a goal or assist someone for a goal then that will be perfect for me and for the team.”

As for that revenge motivation, Villarreal isn't alone in that mindset.

"We get a chance to fix something that we messed up last year. We’re excited to be back here and we’re expecting a battle," midfielder Rafael Garcia told LA Galaxy Insider. "Like I said, we have that little chip on our shoulder that we should have won last year and hopefully, we’ll get it right this time."

The LA Galaxy know their opponents for the Guiness International Champions Cup and now they know when they'll be playing.

LA will open the tournament against Spanish giants Real Madrid at University of Phoenix Stadium and will play against either Juventus or Everton at Dodger Stadium on August 3. If LA defeats Madrid, they will then play in the nightcap at Dodger Stadium and play at Sun Life Stadium in Miami on August 7. If LA drop their match to Madrid, they'll play in either the fifth place or seventh place game at Sun Life Stadium.

“After having played in many of Southern California’s legendary venues, the Galaxy are thrilled to be able to take part in the first-ever soccer games to be played at Dodger Stadium, one of the more scenic and storied sports venues in the world,” LA Galaxy President Chris Klein said in a statement. “Every summer the Galaxy work to bring some of the world’s most prominent clubs to Los Angeles and this year will be no different as we are proud to host some of the top teams from England, Italy and Spain in what will be a tremendous sporting event.”

The complete bracket for the tournament can be seen below.

The winner of tonight's U.S. Open Cup match between the LA Galaxy and Carolina RailHawks will host Chivas USA in the U.S. Open Cup fourth round after the Rojiblancos defeated the Los Angeles Blues on Tuesday.

Chivas battled back from an early deficit on a goal by George Davis IV. But scored two second half goals through a strike by Carlos Alvarez and a penalty kick goal by goalkeeper Dan Kennedy.

If the Galaxy win, they will host Chivas USA on June 12 at The Home Depot Center, but if Carolina defeat LA, they will host the Rojiblancos at WakeMed Soccer Park.

CARY, N.C. -- LA Galaxy assistant coach and reserve team coach Curt Onalfo will lead the LA Galaxy against the Carolina RailHawks on Wednesday in their U.S. Open Cup third round match up, Onalfo told the media on Tuesday.

Onalfo has served as the club's reserve league head coach for three years.

“It’s not about me. It’s all about our players; it’s an opportunity for these guys as it always is when this group of players step on the field. It’s their opportunity to step up the ladder,” Onalfo told reporters following the club’s training session on Tuesday. “It’s their opportunity to make a better situation for their career. We’re well prepared, we know how to go into the game and it’s just a matter of stepping onto the field and executing the plan.

“Of course, anytime you have an opportunity to lead a group of men then it’s a good thing, but this is Bruce’s team and I've been asked to get these guys prepared and do whatever we can to get the result.”

Former LA Galaxy midfielder Mike Magee trained with the Chicago Fire for the first time since being traded by the LA Galaxy for Robbie Rogers last Saturday.

Magee will don the number nine shirt with the Fire and spoke to the media for the first time on Monday about his deal that sent him from LA to his hometown of Chicago.

“It’s been on my mind pretty much since I left. I tried to get back [here] a couple times in the past and then I think throughout the process with Robbie Rogers, that whole saga with him trying to get to LA, it crept in my mind that somebody had to go to Chicago and I raised my hand," Magee told reporters.

As for how he intends to fit in with the Fire, Magee admits that the process is already ongoing as he hopes to translate his MLS Cup winning success with LA to Chicago.

“I hope so. It’s weird coming in. I have to cut the chord with LA and try not to mention anything about that. Nobody wants to hear me talk about any of that stuff. Obviously there are certain things that we had there and I’ll try to implement some of those things," Magee said. "I played with some pretty cool players in LA so hopefully I’ll try to take some of the things I learned from them and teach some of the young guys here. They have good leadership here. Larentowicz and Logan are two good guys – good locker room guys.”

CARSON, Calif. – Robbie Keane had the hat trick. Robbie Rogers made major American professional team sports history.

But arguably the player who had the best showing in the LA Galaxy’s 4-0 win over Seattle Sounders FC was midfielder Michael Stephens.

The four-year MLS veteran enjoyed, arguably, the finest performance of his career in LA's trouncing of Seattle. Stephens was a bundle of energy throughout his 90 minute shift as he continually pestered the Sounders from his post on LA's left flank. The stat sheet was kind to the 24-year-old, who completed 37 of his 47 passes—one of which being a key pass to set up a scoring opportunity—as well as seven recoveries.

“I thought Mike Stephens had an excellent night tonight. He was incredibly busy; he put a lot of pressure on them,” said Arena. “His passing was good, he got the ball off his feet, he was active, and [it was] Mikey’s best performance this year.”

LA captain Robbie Keane was quick to agree.

“I thought Mikey did very well,” said Keane. "Mikey is full of energy and especially tonight, the system that they play suited us actually.”

After going to the distance against Sounders FC, Stephens may see limited in LA’s U.S. Open Cup third round clash against the Carolina RailHawks on Wednesday, but will likely be in contention for a start against the New England Revolution.
