Ahead of tonight's clash with C.S. Cartagines, several LA Galaxy players preview their CCL match.

Check it out below...

19 August 6:00 pm

CARSON, Calif. -- No one on the LA Galaxy is more familiar with Costa Rican soccer than midfielder Marcelo Sarvas.

Sarvas spent two tournaments with L.D. Alajuelense helping Liga win the 2011 Invierno (summer) title and 2011 Verano (winter) title. During that time, he became a major celebrity in the land of Pura Vida as evidenced by his incredible reception when the Galaxy took on Herediano in the 2012-13 CONCACAF Champions League.

During his time with Alajuelense, Sarvas was able to take on the Galaxy in the 2011-12 CCL tournament and is very familiar of what will be going through the minds of the Cartaginés players on Tuesday night at StubHub Center.

“I expect a team that’s going to come with a lot of energy. It was the same for me two years ago when I came here,” said Sarvas. “You want to show yourself to the Galaxy and look for new options [to play]. Costa Rican players are good on the ball, not too much organization in the field. I expect a good game.”

Sarvas is also very familiar with the culture at Costa Rica’s oldest club.

“They a good history in Costa Rica, but they went almost 70 years without a championshi," said Sarvas. "They have a good fan base, a good city around them, and they’re a good club. They used to be a big club.”

Will the Costa Ricans opt to bunker against a stronger Galaxy side? Unlikely says Sarvas.

“I think that they’ll be a little bit scared when they see the size of the field because it’s not usual for them to play on this type of field. It’s hard to think about that. In Costa Rica, they don’t have that much organization, so if they sit back, it’s not the best for them because they don’t keep the lines and it’s not what they normally do.”

LA Galaxy captain Robbie Keane has enjoyed yet another stellar season but is he an MLS MVP candidate?

The 31-year-old has been fantastic in his season with 10 goals and nine assists in just 14 appearances -- that means that Keane has scored in just over 72 percent of the matches that he has played in. That percentage is similar to another MLS MVP frontrunner Mike Magee, who has scored in eight of his 10 matches with the Chicago Fire while it is better than Vancouver Whitecaps FC's Camilo, who has 14 goals in 23 appearances or goals in 61 percent of his matches.

Not only has he scored goals, but he's also been a fine distributor with a team-leading nine assists. Currently Keane is third in the league in assists and when/if he gets his 10th, he'll become just the fifth Galaxy player to score 10 goals and 10 assists in a single season.

The Irishman's performance this season has already made Galaxy history as Keane is just the fourth Galaxy player in club history to score 10 goals in consecutive seasons joining Landon Donovan, Carlos Ruiz, and Welton.

The most significant numbers for this argument? The Galaxy's record when he is on and off the field: when he is in the lineup, the Galaxy are an impressive 8-3-3, but when he is unavailable, they are 3-6-1.

So you make the call, is Keane an MVP candidate or not? Vote below and leave note in the comment section.

CARSON, Calif. -- There is plenty of speculation surrounding LA Galaxy forward Landon Donovan's future with his contract expiring at the end of the season and in an interview with Fox Sports 1, he addressed his future.

Donovan said in the interview that he has received some offers abroad, but stayed true to course by admitting that he simply needs to be happy no matter where he plays next.

Another week, another MLS Player of the Week award for an LA Galaxy forward.

This time, it was Robbie Keane who was the recepient  of the award, which is voted on by the North American Soccer Reporters, after the Irish forward tallied a hat trick in the Galaxy's 4-2 victory over Real Salt Lake. Keane scored three second half goals to lead LA to a victory over the Western Conference leaders.  A week earlier, Landon Donovan won the award for his hat trick in LA's 3-3 draw with FC Dallas.

Keane joins Donovan and Mike Magee as the three Galaxy players who have won the award this season.

C.S. Cartaginés continued their three game unbeaten run in all competitions on Saturday with a   1-0 win over  A.D. Carmelita on the heels of their CONCACAF Champions League clash with the LA Galaxy on Tuesday.

Star attacker Pablo Herrera found the back of the net in the 13th minute to put Los Brumosos up for good. It wasn’t a perfect night for Cartagines however, as defender Andres Sanabria was sent off in the closing stages of the match.

Cartaginés is unbeaten in their last three matches, which includes a 1-0-1 record to start the Campeonato de Invierno. The Costa Ricans undefeated run includes an impressive 4-2 victory over Isidro Metapán to start Group 8 play two weeks ago.

Following Saturday's victory against Real Salt Lake, Landon Donovan discussed the win.

Check out his comments below.

18 August 11:30 am

CARSON, Calif. – Omar Gonzalez had been waiting for a set piece goal throughout the 2013 season, and finally, in the closing stages of the LA Galaxy’s 4-2 victory over Real Salt Lake, he found the back of the net to end a remarkable week.

The Galaxy’s newest Designated Player was his usual effective self on the defensive end against RSL, but in the 75th minute, he was able to nod a Landon Donovan corner kick past ‘keeper Nick Rimando and into the back of the net.

“I’ve been waiting for a set piece and maybe a week ago I said hopefully some more will be coming and tonight I got one which I’m really happy about,” said Gonzalez. “I think that I could have got two more. But I think I’m happy with the one and hopefully I can just build off that.”

Immediately after his goal, Gonzalez had a few words for his RSL counterpart Nat Borchers, who was marking him on the play. The Salt Lake defender had his arms wrapped around Gonzalez on the play, but LA’s newest DP was able to burst free in able to get a head on the Donovan corner.

As for what was said between the two defenders? Simply “smack talk” according to Gonzalez.

“There was a little bit of smack talk before the ball was hit. Borchers was talking some smack, but I think that I got the last laugh,” said Gonzalez. “There’s a little bit [after the goal], we were still going out it during the next two chances that I got.  I wish that I could have scored on those chances too.’

To score his first goal of the season in a victory in a win over a conference rival just days after signing a new contract proved to be a perfect cap to the week for Gonzalez.

“It feels great,’ said Gonzalez. “Scoring after signing my contract was great and I just want to help this team win and do whatever I can to help this team win whether it’s scoring goals or just keeping the zero. Tonight, we didn’t keep the zero but I helped on the other end so I just want to contribute anyway that I can.”

17 August 11:21 pm

CARSON, Calif. -- The LA Galaxy stormed back from a one goal deficit to defeat Real Salt Lake 4-2 on Saturday.

Joao Plata put RSL up in the 53rd minute, but LA answered right back with two goals from Robbie Keane, who scored twice in a nine minute span. Newly crowned Designated Player Omar Gonzalez added a third in the 75th minute of play.  Keane would complete the hat trick with a goal in the 86th minute, but RSL cut he lead in half with a Robbie Findley goal off a free kick.

*Carlo Cudicini and Robbie Rogers were both left off the game day roster due to a coach's decision.

*With his three goals, Robbie Keane now has 10 goals on the season for LA, making him the fourth player in club history with consecutive seasons of 10 or more goals.

*Donovan and Keane are the first MLS teammates with hat tricks in consecutive games since Donovan and Dewayne De Rosario performed the same feat during the 2003 season with the San Jose Earthquakes.

*The Galaxy are now 3-7-1 when allowing the first goal while RSL is 11-3-3 when scoring first.

*Jaime Penedo made his MLS Regular Season debut with a start and had just a single save.

*Sean Franklin made his 150th MLS Regular Season appearance for the Galaxy after coming on as a sub in the 66th minute.

*The two goals were Keane's seventh multi-goal game of his MLS career. He has now scored 28 MLS Regular Season goals in his career with LA.

*RSL's Kyle Beckerman is suspended due to yellow card accumulation for their next match against the Portland Timbers on Aug. 21.

*Landon Donovan is now second all-time for the MLS Regular Season assist mark with 115 passing Carlos Valderrama. He's 20 assists behind the all-time leader, New England Revolution great Steve Ralston.
