Landon Donovan called up to U.S. National Team match against Ecuador

By Adam Serrano

Landon Donovan will get his farewell lap for the U.S. National Team after all.

U.S. Soccer announced on Tuesday that the federation's all-time leading goal scorer will be called up for the upcoming Oct. 10 friendly against Ecuador in Hartford, Conn. Donovan, who was excluded from the U.S. squad at the 2014 FIFA World Cup, has not played for the national team since an April 2 exhibition against Mexico in Arizona.

The match against Ecuador will cap a stellar international career for Donovan. During his tenure with the national team, Donovan tallied 157 goals -- five of those at the World Cup -- while appearing in three World Cups for the United States.

"Playing for the U.S. National Team has been a huge part of my career and I'm ecstatic to have the opportunity to play for my country one last time,” said Donovan in a statement. “I'm so grateful to all the fans that have supported me and this game will give me the chance to say thank you to all of them. I look forward to a great evening and I'm thankful to U.S. Soccer for making this happen."
