There's no question that Robbie Keane is what makes the LA Galaxy tick.

In the latest installment of's The Throw-in, Jonah Freedman discusses the importance of the Galaxy's Irish captain and the influence that he has had on the team in an very interesting piece. In his piece, Freedman breaks down the importance of Landon Donovan to Keane's success, but for good measure, I went a little deeper and broke down the LA captain's numbers ( in all MLS competitions) when he's beside Donovan up top, when Donovan is on the pitch in midfield and when he is out of the lineup.

WHEN DONOVAN IS IN MIDFIELD: 11 goals.  (3 in 2011, 4 in 2012, 4 in 2013)

WITHOUT DONOVAN ON THE FIELD: 8 goals (0 in 2011, 5 in 2012, 3 in 2013)

PARTNERED ALONGSIDE EACH OTHER: 22 goals. (0 in 2011, 13 in 2012, 9 in 2013)

It's time for yet another look at the new LA Galaxy primary kit.

In this latest image, we have eight stripes in a sash on what appears to be the bottom half of the jersey. When you compare it alongside with the jersey portion that was unveiled earlier in the week, it's safe to ascertain that there will be 11 stripes on the kit.

Also, there is word that the Galaxy will be unveiling the jerseys in a campaign that will include Galaxy supporters, current LA players as well as several team legends from yesteryear.

CARSON, Calif. -- The LA Galaxy announced on Friday afternoon that they have waived defender Bryan Gaul ahead of the 2014 MLS season.

Gaul, who enjoyed a strong rookie season in 2012, struggled mightily in 2013 as he split time between the Galaxy, Ft. Lauderdale Strikers and the Carolina Railhawks. The 24-year-old was used primarily as a reserve this preseason for the Galaxy after failing to make a first team appearance last season

U.S. National Team head coach Jurgen Klinsmann named his 24-man training camp roster for the March 5 match against Ukraine and left off the list were Galaxy stalwarts Landon Donovan and Omar Gonzalez.

The roster is predominantly European-based players with just two selections from MLS (Michael Bradley and Clint Dempsey) but also includes Club Tijuana left back Edgar Castillo. The inclusion of Castillo is quite notable for Galaxy fans as the Xolos defender will log heavy mileage in the coming weeks with potential appearances in Tijuana’s March 1 match against Veracruz, the U.S. friendly four days later, Tijuana’s March 7 game against Chivas de Guadalajara, and finally the CONCACAF Champions League first leg against the LA at StubHub Center on March 12.

Also called up to the training squad is Florida-born Bayern Munich wunderkind Julian Green who is not yet eligible to appear for the U.S. due to his appearances in the German national youth set up.

The match which was moved away from Ukraine earlier in the week due to political unrest in that country will take place in Cyprus at Antonis Papadopoulous Stadium in the city of Larnica.

The MLS Regular Season is upon us and before the start of the season, I'll be offering readers of LA Galaxy Insider, the chance to "Beat the Insider" in MLS Fantasy.

The rules of the game are simple as fans will simply need to make an entry in's MLS Fantasy game and set their favorite team to Los Angeles Galaxy. By joining, you'll be entered into the club's supporters league and have a chance at a $200 dollar prize and as the season goes on, will be providing additional prizes (think: jerseys, scarves and game tickets).  Now, I'm a relative neophyte to Fantasy MLS, but I'll be taking this season seriously and will be providing fantasy MLS coverage throughout the 2014 season.

My team for the first week of the season is below.

The LA Galaxy's primary jersey will be unveiled on March 3 and on Wednesday, we take a second look at the club's new primary kit on LA Galaxy Insider.

Earlier in the week, we looked at the the Galaxy emblem on the back collar, now we take a look at the team's crest which is emblazoned with quasars. This effect means that the team's three jerseys will each have their own interpretation of the Galaxy crest with the second kit (and the training jersey) providing the classic blue and gold logo while the 1996-inspired third jersey depicts the logo in greyscale. The front of the jersey's collar can also be seen with the same gold and blue pattern that was seen on the back.

Remember, these jerseys can already be preordered on

Below is a video from the league that provides an initial glance at the new kits of 19 MLS teams.
