CARSON, Calif. -- The LA Galaxy will take the field against the Colorado Rapids with heavy hearts after the passing of A.J. DeLaGarza's newborn son Luca on Thursday.

The Galaxy will be holding a moment of silence pregame for Luca DeLaGarza while also wearing black Luca inscribed armbands during the match.

More on the game itself below.

NOTES AND LINKS:

*LA Galaxy forward Landon Donovan was named MLS Player of the Month for the month of August on Friday

*Brian Perk is scheduled to travel to Sacramento with LA Galaxy II for their upcoming match against Sacramento Republic on Saturday meaning that goalkeeper Brian Rowe appears to be the safe bet to get the start against the Rapids.

*Alan Gordon told LA Galaxy Insider earlier this week that he's approaching full fitness, but is unlikely to be 90 minutes fit. With that in mind, Galaxy head coach Bruce Arena spoke to forward Chandler Hoffman earlier in the week stating that he'll be likely used off the bench in an effort to spell Gordon if he is unable to go the distance.

*LAGalaxy.com's Larry Morgan noted in his preview that Rowe is likely to start and reported that Stefan Ishizaki is nearing his return to the field after missing the last several matches with a lower body injury.

*In the latest "By The Numbers," we look at Gyasi Zardes' incredible summer that saw the forward score 15 goals in 17 games

MATCHUPS TO WATCH:

GYASI ZARDES AND ALAN GORDON vs. COLORADO DEFENSE

Alan Gordon was once part of San Jose's "Bash Brothers," but could we bill his new partnership with Gyasi Zardes as "Thunder and Lightning?" With Zardes' speed balancing with Gordon's brawn, expect the pair to be a handful for the battered Colorado defense.

DESHORN BROWN vs. LEONARDO

The oft-maligned Leonardo got all that he could handle from the speedy Brown in the first half of the Galaxy's 4-3 win over Colorado last month, but the big Brazilian will need a much stronger performance -- like his second half showing -- if he's to prevent the Jamaican from terrorizing the Galaxy back four.

PREDICTION:

LA Galaxy 3 Colorado Rapids 1

*Goals by Zardes, Gordon and Sarvas.

CARSON, Calif. -- LA Galaxy Homegrown Player Bradford Jamieson IV made his U.S. U-20 debut by going 45 minutes in the team's 2-0 victory over the reserve squad of Argentine side Racing Club on Friday.

The U.S. made quick work of the Argentines as Zach Piffer and Romain Gall scored in the first half to seal the victory. With the Americans up two goals, Jamieson came into the match at the start of the second half in favor of former Galaxy Academy player Paul Arriola.

Tab Ramos' squad will next take on Defensa y Justicia Reserves on Sept. 6 before ending their Argentine excursion by facing the nation's U-20 side three days later.

As if traffic isn't even more difficult to navigate on a Friday afternoon, the StubHub Center have issued a traffic advisory ahead of Friday's clash with the Colorado Rapids.

"Due to surface street construction occurring around the StubHub Center, 190th Street will be reduced to one lane in-between Main Street and Avalon Blvd," the venue said in a release. LA Galaxy captain Robbie Keane came on as a second half substitute in Republic of Ireland's 2-0 win over Asian nation Oman in Dublin.

Keane entered the match in the 59th minute and nearly found the back of the net in the 80th minute, but saw his attempt saved by goalkeeper Ali Al-Habisi.

The Republic of Ireland take on Georgia in the Central European nation's capital of Tiblisi as they start their 2016 European Championship qualification campaign.

CARSON, Calif. -- Gyasi Zardes and Landon Donovan earned a place in MLSsoccer.com's Team of the Week on Tuesday for their role in the Galaxy's two straight wins last week.

Zardes tallied two goals in the victory over Chivas USA while Donovan notched one goal and three assists in the Galaxy's wins over the Rojiblancos and D.C. United. For his success last week, Donovan was named Player of the Week by the North American Soccer Reporters on Tuesday.

CARSON, Calif. -- Gyasi Zardes endured a brief three-game scoring drought in his career season, but kicked back into gear with an impressive two goal showing in the LA Galaxy's 3-0 victory over Chivas USA on Sunday.

Zardes opened the scoring in the 44th minute with a clinical one-time finish that sailed past Chivas goalkeeper Dan Kennedy and curled inside the far post. The 22-year-old coupled his lovely individual effort with a tidy finish for LA's third goal in the 71st minute as tapped in a Landon Donovan cross to provide the finishing touch of an 11 pass combination by the Galaxy.  With his two goals against Chivas, Zardes now has 12 goals in 25 matches this season, and is the top scoring American-born player in MLS.

Five of Zardes' 12 goals this season came during the Galaxy's impressive 19 goal month of August that saw LA rocket to second place in the Western Conference and second in the standings for the MLS Supporters' Shield. Although the 22-year-old with the unforgettable hairdo is pleased to play his part in the Galaxy's offensive explosion, he's quick to recognize his teammates' role in getting him the ball.

“To be honest, our midfield is just killing it in terms. You look at the stats, and we’re just touching the ball a lot. And the defenders are just keeping a clean sheet, so the whole team is really working together," said Zardes.  "As a team, we’re just really building off each other and really being aggressive.”

And according to Galaxy captain Robbie Keane as long as Zardes gets into those dangerous positions, he'll continue to be a threat to score.

"Ultimately as a striker you’re judged on scoring goals," Keane said. "So if he continues to get himself in the right position, certainly myself and Landon, and the lads up there can certainly get him goals."

With Zardes scoring in bunches and even going as far to admit that he'd like to one day be the league's top goal scorer, one question remains: could a national team call-up be far behind?  Even the always humble Zardes admits that he's hoping to get a call from Jurgen Klinsmann soon.

"Everybody wants to make the national team. That's always a goal for a soccer player," said Zardes. "If that's not your goal then I don't think that you should be playing soccer."
