New LA Galaxy goalkeeper coach Matt Reis' father-in-law John Odom was honored on Thursday as the Los Angeles Kings' "Hero of the Game" prior to their match against the Boston Bruins.

Odom was recognized for his recovery from serious injuries sustained in the Boston Marathon bombing last year, Reis being one of the first responders who helped take his father-in-law to safety. In an interview with LAGalaxy.com in December, Reis admitted that being close to Odom and the rest of his extended family was one of the principal reasons that he took the goalkeeper coach job with the Galaxy.

Check it the video honoring Odom below.

Landon Donovan’s hat trick in the LA Galaxy’s 3-3 against FC Dallas earned him MLS Player of the Week honors, MLS announced.

The North American Soccer Reporters voted Donovan as Player of the Week, making him the second LA Galaxy player to win the honors this season. The first was Mike Magee when he tallied a hat trick against his current club, the Chicago Fire in the first week of the season.

Let’s look at just how impressive Donovan’s night was, shall we?

*Donovan had just three shots and scored three goals. He’s the first player to score in all of his shots since Dewayne De Rosario on Sept. 2011. Interestingly enough, three of Donovan’s came during game’s where he scored on all three of his shots.

*Donovan has now scored 20 goals against FC Dallas. His highest against any club.

*Donovan now has 152 career goals in MLS (counting postseason and regular season).

*At 130 regular season goals, he’s just FIVE goals away from setting a new MLS regular season record, which is currently held by Jeff Cunningham.

*Donovan now has four career hat tricks in MLS – three of them as a member of the Galaxy—which puts him just one hat trick away from tying the league’s all-time mark of five, which is shared by Stern John and Diego Serna.

Omar Gonzalez solidified his spot as a legitimate option for Jurgen Klinsmann's U.S. national team squad with an active 90 minute performance in the United States' scoreless draw against Canada on Tuesday at BBVA Compass Stadium in Houston, Texas.

The U.S. struggled to generate much offense against the organized Canadians, but Gonzalez was a rock in central defense as he helped shut down any forays forward by the Canadians. Gonzalez was also active on the attack as he was frequently targeted on set pieces as the U.S. looked to break the deadlock.

While Gonzalez excelled against the Canadians, his LA Galaxy teammate A.J. DeLaGarza was not on the gameday roster.

Think Gonzalez will be called up for the USMNT's World Cup Qualifier in Honduras next week?

The LA Galaxy are “looking forward to perhaps signing another Designated Player” to replace the spot vacated by David Beckham according to club head coach and general manager Bruce Arena, but just who that player might be is still a point of debate.

Two names have risen to the cusp over the last month—English midfielder Frank Lampard and Brazilian playmaker Kaká. In conversations with sources across the league and by reading various reports, I’m getting the impression that Lampard has surpassed the Brazilian as LA’s primary Designated Player target.

This comes after a Galaxy source refuted a report that had stated a Lampard deal was “all but done” to ESPN FC’s Jeff Carlisle.

“We do not have a deal with Frank Lampard," Carlisle’s source stated. "We continue to speak with him as we have stated, but nothing is done or 'all but done'."

The ESPN FC source within the Galaxy added that, "The [Goal.com] report, in its context, is not accurate. The process is ongoing and we will see where it goes."

However, before you think that this means that Lampard is bound for Los Angeles, there are a few other factors to account for. Primarily, the fact that Lampard has repeatedly said that Chelsea would be his first option due to his extensive history at club where he has scored 195 goals -- he scored on Sunday's victory over Arsenal -- over his 10-year career with the Blues. Even Lampard's own teammates have questioned whether or not Chelsea management would be wise to offer him a contact extension. Also, the 34-year-old midfielder has been linked with teams across Europe including Italian giants AC Milan and Juventus while according to the British tabloid, the Daily Mail, Lampard may put his goal of reaching 100 appearances for England at risk if he does not sign with a team in Europe.

As for Kaká? According to Spain’s Marca, Real Madrid rejected an eight million dollar bid from LA for the Brazilian. Arena admitted that the LA Galaxy have had discussions with the player, who was identified by AEG President and CEO Tim Leiweke as the Galaxy’s chief target back in December, but the news comes amid reports that the Brazilian midfielder may be bound for a return to his former club AC Milan.

With Lampard appearing far more likely at this moment, does that mean the longtime Chelsea midfielder will play for LA in 2013? That remains to be seen as this saga is far from over, but he appears to be the Galaxy’s Designated Player target at the moment.
