In addition to discussing his plans to put on weight after his career ends, Donovan tells Mayne about his favorite moment at StubHub Center and his reasoning on why he deserved to be on the U.S. squad during the 2014 FIFA World Cup.

MLS commissioner Don Garber addressed comments by U.S. head coach Jurgen Klinsmann denigrating MLS on Wednesday in a scathing teleconference call with reporters across the league.

During his extensive teleconference in which Garber addressed Klinsmann's remarks about the declining form of U.S. internationals Clint Dempsey and Michael Bradley since joining MLS, the MLS commissioner took a moment to discuss Landon Donovan's omission from the U.S. squad at the 2014 FIFA World Cup.

“I believe Landon should have been in Brazil,” said Garber, adding that his treatment for cancer prevented him from speaking out prior to the teleconference. “His performance dictated it. … His treatment was inexcusable. I have concerns that his criticism, particularly of Michael, is following that pattern.”

Garber continued noting that Klinsmann's comments were "incredibly damaging" to a league that has shown incredible growth in it's 19 years.

“I’m demanding that he refrain from making comments that are critical of our players and damaging to our league,” Garber said. “Jurgen’s comments are very, very detrimental to the league, they’re detrimental to the sport of soccer in America. Not only are they detrimental, they’re wrong.”

“Sending a message to any player and obviously to U.S. players that signing to Major League Soccer is not going to be good to their career or good to their form is detrimental to Major League Soccer.”

Landon Donovan donned the U.S. National Team kit for a final time on Friday in the U.S. National Team's 1-1 draw with Ecuador and U.S. Soccer made sure that their greatest player ever left with a truly meaningful parting gift.

Prior to the match with Ecuador, U.S. Soccer President Sunil Gulati presented Donovan with a jersey made up of all 19 jerseys that Donovan wore during his career with the USMNT. The jersey was placed on a wooden frame that included the engraved names of all of Donovan's teammates from his 157 appearances with the national team.

U.S. Soccer has issued numerous tributes to Landon Donovan in the lead up his final appearance for the U.S. National Team and the latest has a distinctly academy feel.

In an interview with U.S. Soccer, current Galaxy U-17 and U.S. U-17 defender Hugo Arellano reflects on Donovan's impact on his own career and the career of other young players. Donovan was himself famously a member of the same residency program that Arellano -- and Galaxy U-16 goalkeeper Eric Lopez -- is a member of.

CARSON, Calif. – Landon Donovan is scheduled to be back in the fold for the LA Galaxy after appearing in Friday’s U.S. National Team match against Ecuador, but could Omar Gonzalez also be back in the lineup for the FC Dallas match?

According to Galaxy head coach Bruce Arena, the final decision will be left to U.S. head coach Jurgen Klinsmann on whether or not Gonzalez will rejoin the Galaxy or stay with the U.S. for their Oct. 14 friendly against Honduras in Florida.

“The decision will be made by the coach and what he thinks is in the best interest of his team and everything that he needs to do,” said Arena. “This is not an easy situation for a national team coach when he can’t rely on the domestic players because of the league. It’s not easy on anyone so he doesn’t need to be bugged by me during the week. It’s an awkward situation for everyone.

“It’s difficult on a national team coach and the best way to [fix the problem] would be to honor international dates if we can get to that point with our league, so that it doesn’t become such a challenge for everybody to make it work”

CARSON, Calif. –Landon Donovan will take the field for a final time for the U.S. National Team this Friday against Ecuador and according to the Galaxy great, it couldn’t have happened without the influence of U.S. Soccer president Sunil Gulati.

Donovan was named captain for the match on Tuesday by U.S. head coach Jurgen Klinsmann, but the 32-year-old forward told reporters that he has yet to speak to the national team boss ahead of the game.  While Donovan’s relationship with Klinsmann has been noticeably frosty since he was excluded from the U.S. squad for the 2014 FIFA World Cup,

“I give Sunil a lot of credit for making the effort to make this happen. He made sure that this was going to happen and I’m glad that he did. I wasn’t sure at first, but he did a good job of making sure that it all came together. I’m sure that it’s going to be a terrific event and I’m very excited.”

And when asked if his USMNT swansong would not have happened without Gulati’s sway, Donovan's answer was revealing.

“I don’t know for sure,” admitted Donovan. “But I’d say that’s a safe assumption.”

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – The LA Galaxy will get their first week-long break in  little over a month this week and the respite could not come at a better time for striker Robbie Keane.

Due to his participation in Ireland’s UEFA Euro 2016 qualifying campaign, the Irishman has traveled considerable distances bouncing around from Southern California, Dublin, Tbilisi, Georgia, Montreal, and San Jose.

After the Galaxy’s 1-1 draw with the San Jose Earthquakes, Keane admitted that he’s eagerly looking forward to a little rest before LA return to action this Saturday against FC Dallas.

“It’s been a tough few weeks for me personally. I'm absolutely shattered to be honest with you and it'll be nice to have a week without traveling,” said Keane after LA's draw to San Jose. “I've been feeling the effects over the last couple of days so it'll be nice to rest and not have to travel. I've endured a long 10 days with some 40 hours of traveling and it was taking my toll. I'll just refresh myself and get ready for Saturday’s game.”

With some needed time to rest, Keane believes that he’ll be able to better aid the Galaxy as they look to erase Seattle Sounders FC’s slim three point lead in the Supporters’ Shield chase.

“It’s in our own hands,” said Keane. “We're playing the teams around us and they'll be tough games, but we’re quite capable of beating anybody.”

LA Galaxy goalkeeper Jaime Penedo will rejoin the club this week from the Copa CentroAmericana, but even though Panama did not win the Central American championship, Penedo will leave with some silverware.

Penedo was awarded the tournament’s Golden Glove award for best goalkeeper after conceding just two goals during Panama’s three games. Panama finished the tournament in third place after defeating El Salvador 1-0 in the third place match on Saturday afternoon at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum.

The award comes on the heels of Penedo's Golden Gloves showing at the 2013 CONCACAF Gold Cup when Penedo was instrumental in Panama’s run to the final. By finishing in the CentroAmericana's top four spots, Panama earned a berth in the 2015 edition of the Gold Cup.
