Sean Shahmirzadi, a native of Los Angeles, joins the first team performance staff ahead of the 2023 MLS season. Prior to his new role, Shahmirzadi worked as the head athletic trainer for LA Galaxy II from August 2021 to December 2022.

His duties include developing individualized maintenance programs, monitoring return to play progressions in collaboration with the performance team, and serving as the lead preceptor for the club’s athletic training student clinical education.

Shahmirzadi also works as a Network Professional Athletic Trainer for the US Soccer Federation. In this role, he has worked international friendlies and tournaments with the USYNT.

Prior to joining the LA Galaxy, Shahmirzadi spent six years as the athletic trainer for the women’s soccer team at Santa Clara University. During his time at Santa Clara, Shahmirzadi was named the 2020 California Athletic Trainers’ Association athletic trainer of the year for excellence in patient care. Shahmirzadi was on staff of the 2020 NCAA Division I women’s soccer national championship team.

A graduate of University of Utah, Shahmirzadi earned an undergraduate research scholar designation Bachelor of Science Degree in Athletic Training and a minor degree in Nutrition. He went on to San Jose State University where he earned a Master’s degree in Kinesiology with a focus in Athletic Training.

Shahmirzadi has previously served as an Advisory Board member on the California Concussion Institute, a team of interdisciplinary providers, who serve to create a community that spreads concussion management best practices to the public and healthcare providers.
