2009 Holiday Assist Program
On Tuesday, December 15th, the Los Angeles Galaxy Foundation hosted its 10th annual Holiday Assist Program in order to brighten the holidays for children in need. Working with Beyond Shelter, The Salvation Army San Pedro Corps and Hillsides, children were invited to the Holiday Assist Program Party at the American Express Stadium Club at The Home Depot Center.
LA Galaxy players Dema Kovalenko, Gregg Berhalter, and Omar González, Associate Head Coach Dave Sarachan and his wife Cherie, Assistant Coach Cobi Jones and his wife Kim along with 2010 Miss LA Galaxy Nicola Wales-Wong, and Court Members Alondra Suarez, and Elizabeth Gomez and Galaxy staff members and Galaxy staff members decorated, greeted the children, participated in arts and crafts, and helped distribute presents and gift bags.
Upon arrival, each child received a LA Galaxy t-shirt, autographs from the Galaxy players and coaches, and filled up on pizza and holiday snacks. Afterwards, the children had the opportunity to make hand puppets, Candy Cane Reindeer and Snowman ornaments. Following arts and crafts, the children gathered around the Christmas trees to receive presents from Galaxy players and Miss LA Galaxy Court Members. Once each child received their presents, they were escorted by a Galaxy Foundation volunteer to pick up a Galaxy tote bag filled with clothing along with a Galaxy soccer ball, fleece blanket and a goodie bag. Before departing the children posed for photos with the Galaxy players, coaches and Miss LA Galaxy Court.
The highlight of the evening was the smiles on the children’s faces and their excitement for the holiday gifts they received and meeting members of the LA Galaxy. The Galaxy Foundation is proud to continue to host programs such as the Holiday Assist Program with the support of our volunteers and contributors.
