Camps for Kids is a program of the Los Angeles Galaxy Foundation and The Home Depot Center Charitable Foundation that emphasizes the importance of exercise and nutrition. This summer, the Foundations hosted three camps with approximately 150 children, ages 7-10, participating from a variety of organization in Southern California.
Working with Galaxy Soccer Camps instructors and Athletes’ Performance, the Foundations highlighted physical fitness and healthy eating. Galaxy Soccer Camps’ coaches set up skills stations including dribbling, passing, shooting, and small-sided games. Athletes’ Performance, the official training partner of the Galaxy, spoke to the children about the importance of hydration, demonstrated the proper warm-ups required before exercise, and led a physical fitness station.
This year, the Foundations were proud to be Go Healthy Champions of the Alliance for a Healthier Generation’s empowerMe Movement - a joint initiative between the American Heart Association and the William J. Clinton Foundation. At each camp, the American Heart Association was on hand to educate and promote healthy eating and snacking tips through the empowerMe Movement.
Proctor & Gamble once again had their Crest Squeeze and Tide Soccer Speed Kick inflatable on site as well as provided an Olympic pin set for the Camps for Kids’ gift bags.
Each participant received a Camps for Kids t-shirt, gift bag containing an Active Bodies, Active Minds booklet, nutritional activity sheets, and soccer ball as well as a healthy lunch and snacks donated by Sensible Portions.
