Breast Cancer Awareness Month

In October, the LA Galaxy teamed up with MLS W.O.R.K.S., Major League Soccer’s community outreach initiative, to implement a league-wide campaign to help in the fight against breast cancer. The Galaxy along with the Los Angeles Galaxy Foundation helped raise awareness and funds for the cause throughout the month.

Galaxy and MLS players, coaches and officials were outfitted in pink gear for Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Players wore special pink MLS W.O.R.K.S.’ ribbon patches on their jerseys and pink shoelaces and wristbands. Coaches and technical staff wore MLS W.O.R.K.S. scarves and ribbon pins during the team’s home October matches. Game officials had pink whistles, wristbands and jersey patches. Each October Galaxy home game was played with commemorative pink adidas Jabulani match balls and pink Gatorade sideline towels were used by both benches. Galaxy staff and mascot Cozmo supported the campaign by wearing pink ribbon pins, scarves and wristbands.

Additionally, both visiting teams Real Salt Lake (Oct. 1) and Chivas USA (Oct. 16) supported the initiative by wearing their respective Breast Cancer Awareness gear.

This year, the Galaxy has partnered with Zeta Tau Alpha (ZTA) fraternity to distribute 10,000 pink ribbons to fans at both the October 1st and 16th home games as well as Contemporary Services Corporation (CSC), the world leader in event security and crowd management, who proudly wore pink to show their support for National Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

As part of its effort to raise funds for the fight against breast cancer, both the Los Angeles Galaxy Foundation auctioned off several game-worn pink items for charity.
