Kicks for Kids Recap - August 20, 2011
LA Galaxy vs San Jose Earthquakes
This game was not by any means “just another game” for the LA Galaxy and their fans. This game did not have the normal, expected excitement and buzz either. This game was the debut of the Galaxy’s newest acquisition, Robbie Keane, the Irish National Soccer team captain.
Forty-six non-profit organizations that are beneficiaries of the LA Galaxy Foundation’s Kicks for Kids program received tickets to see the LA Galaxy’s newest team member in person. Casa de Amigos de San Vicente, Aviva Family & Children's Services, AYSO Region 514, Boys & Girls Club of Wilmington and Boys Town California joined the rest of Galaxy fans in welcoming the newly acquired Keane to LA. Keane showed his appreciation to the fans by receiving a long volley pass from teammate David Beckham and putting it in the back of the net in the 21st minute for his first career LA Galaxy goal. The stadium erupted in shouts, cries, and cheers as Keane cart wheeled and somersaulted to celebrate!
Kids from City of Carson Park & Recreation, Girls Club of LA, Family 1st Growth Camp, and Jordan Downs Recreation Center waved their rally towels frantically in the air. One Galaxy’s supporters group began chanting, “LA” and the other responded with “Galaxy” to trigger the entire stadium chanting to one another. The kids joined the supporters groups by yelling at the top of their lungs until their faces were glowing in excitement as the game ended with a 2-0 Galaxy win.
LA Galaxy soccer games such as this match against the San Jose Earthquakes are made possible through the generous donations and support from the 2011 Kicks for Kids Community Partners.
