Kicks for Kids Recap - September 9, 2011
LA Galaxy vs Colorado Rapids
“Friday Night Lights” was the scene at The Home Depot Center as the LA Galaxy welcomed the 2010 MLS Cup Champions, Colorado Rapids. A win against the Rapids would clinch a playoff spot for the Galaxy. For this game, Edward B. Cole Senior Academy, Banning PALs, Boys & Girls Club of Camarillo, College Ready Academy High School #7, City of Carson Park & Recreation were the Kicks for Kids’ guests of honor.
One group received large signs that read, “Are You Ready” posing a question to the rest of the fans in the stadium if they were ready for the 2011 Playoffs. At the 36th minute, the kids rose and chanted in unison “Let’s Go Galaxy, Let’s Go Galaxy”, as Galaxy captain Landon Donovan received a two-touch pass from teammates Robbie Kean and Sean Franklin for a sleek straight shot to the net. Confetti exploded into the air, the Riot Squad loudly banged their drums and 650 kids jumped in excitement after witnessing great teamwork on the field.
The goal set an enthusiastic mood for the rest of the fans in the stands. The kids were all smiles as they ate hotdogs, shared popcorn with their friends, stood up for drink refills, and recapped with each other Donovan’s goal. The atmosphere particularly in section 127 was all smiles from ear to ear.
