2015 LA Galaxy Kick Start Reading Challenge

The challenge is back! The LA Galaxy Kick Start Reading Challenge has returned for its third year and is now available to any participant under the age of 18. Participants will be measured during three periods including the “1st Half” stage, the “2nd Half”, and the “Extra Time”. After hitting certain marks for each stage, participants will earn Galaxy awards including Galaxy folders, Galaxy pencil pouch kits, Galaxy book covers and even the chance to receive tickets to a Galaxy home match!

How To Get Started: 

"1st Half": A teacher/designated school personnel registers below. Upon registering, download a reading log & bookmark for each participant. Participant will then be responsible for completing 400 minutes of reading and having a teacher/designated school personnel/guardian sign off before moving on to next segment. Participant will earn a Galaxy folder after completion of 400 minutes.

"2nd Half": After completing the 1st half, participant advances to the next segment where they will read another 400 minutes. Participant will earn a Galaxy pencil pouch kit after completion of 800 minutes and having a teacher/designated school personnel/guardian sign off. 

"Extra Time": After completing 1st & 2nd half, participant will move to final stage where a final 400 minutes will be read. Participants will earn a Galaxy book cover & be eligible to be entered into a drawing to receive tickets to an LA Galaxy vs. Vancouver Whitecaps on June 6th after completion of 1,200 minutes and accompanying teacher/designated school personnel/guardian signature.

FAQ’s:

Is the Kick Start Reading Challenge open to all ages?

The reading challenge is open to participants under the age of 18.

I have 20 students in my classroom. Can I just sign up once for the whole classroom?

Yes. We ask that teachers/designated school personnel submit a registration form with a list of students participating, thus when we receive your student’s reading logs, we can cross reference progress. A student list will help track award distribution and total number of participants.

I would like our library/classroom/after school program to sign up. Is that possible?

Yes. We invite all organizations to participate in the Kick Start Reading Challenge. If you wish to sign up your group, please make sure to indicate the expected number of participants when registering.

How & when should I submit the reading log to earn awards?

Reading logs can be submitted either as each stage is completed (after 400, 800, 1200 minutes) or at the end of the challenge. Logs must be submitted no later than 12:00 PM PST on May 22, 2015 by participating schools; thus, reading logs should be collected from students before the submission date. Logs can be sent to galaxycommdev@lagalaxy.com or mailed/dropped off to: Galaxy Community Relations 18400 Avalon Boulevard #200, Carson, CA 90746

How will I receive the awards?

After completed logs are returned & verified by a member of the Community Relations department, awards will be made available to be picked up at the StubHub Center located at 18400 Avalon Blvd  Carson, CA 90746 by contacting galaxycommdev@lagalaxy.com or by being shipped to organization/school address listed on registration form.

Who gets tickets to the Galaxy game?

All participants that complete 1,200 minutes will be eligible to be entered into a random drawing to receive tickets to the LA Galaxy vs. Vancouver Whitecaps match on June 6, 2015 at the StubHub Center in Carson, CA (the “Game”). During the week of May 25th, fifty (50) Kick Start ticket recipients selected at random will each receive two (2) tickets to the Game and the opportunity to be acknowledged on the Diamondvision scoreboard on Game day. Participants selected to receive tickets will be notified by an LA Galaxy Community Relations representatives/their teacher/designated school personnel.
