It appears that LA Galaxy assistant coach Curt Onalfo will not be departing for Chivas USA after all.
According to ESPN FC’s Jeff Carlisle—who initially reported the link—Onalfo pulled himself out of the running for the Rojiblancos head coaching job after he and Chivas “were unable to come to an agreement.”
Onalfo has been a member of Bruce Arena’s coaching staff since January 2011.

According to ESPN FC's Jeffrey Carisle, Chivas USA is targeting current LA Galaxy assistant coach Curt Onalfo for their head coaching vacancy.
Carisle cites multiple sources stating that Onalfo is Chivas' first choice for the job should he get a full commitment from the Rojiblancos' organization. The ESPN FC writer also notes, however, that Onalfo would stay with the Galaxy if he is unble to get the Chivas USA gig. In addition to his role as assistant, he's also led the Galaxy reserve league team to back to back West Division titles.
The report comes amid another report in the Miami Herald stating that Kenny Arena is returning to the Galaxy from the head coaching job at Florida International University.
We’re just hours away from kick off of the SuperClásico so here are a few links to get you to kick off.
Here are my three points to the match vs. Chivas USA here

Lastly, my piece on the role that LA’s SuperClasico defeat back in May has played in their recent rise up the standings.
Projected lineup: GK: Saunders; RB: Franklin, CB: DeLaGarza, CB: Gonzalez, LB: Gaul; RM: Jimenez, CM: Sarvas, CM: Juninho, LM: Beckham; F: Keane, F: Donovan.
As we change gears to Saturday’s SuperClásico, we start with the BarraClásico, a quartet of games between sections of the LA Galaxy and Chivas USA organizations that dates back to 2009.
On Thursday night, both groups took part in the eighth edition of the Clásico with each team scoring a pair of victories. (FULL DISCLOSURE: I have yet to attend a BarraClásico, but plan on attending next month’s edition.)
In the first match of the night, the Galaxy Under-15 side defeated the Chivas U-15s 2-1. Chivas would strike back in the second game as LA’s front office staff fell 3-2 to the Chivas counterparts. But the joy was short lived for the Rojiblancos side as the Galaxy’s LA Riot Squad scored a 2-0 victory over the Black Army 1850.
Finally in the nightcap, Chivas’ Union Ultras defeated the Angel City Brigade by the score of 3-1. There is could be silver lining to the ACB defeat for Galaxy fans however, as the first team is currently undefeated when Union Ultras win the BarraClásico.
Fun and games aside, thoughts and prayers go out to longtime US International Claudio Reyna, who lost his son Jack after a long bout with cancer. A true US Soccer legend, Reyna needs your support in his families’ time of need.
We’ll have more from training this afternoon.
