Robbie Keane called up to Ireland's provisional roster for June friendlies; status for games uncertain
LA Galaxy captain Robbie Keane was named to Ireland's provisional roster for their upcoming list of four friendlies including a pair of United States-based matches in June ahead of the 2014 FIFA World Cup, but whether he'll participate remains to be seen.
Keane was among the 32 players named to the squad for Ireland's matches against Turkey on May 25 in Dublin, Italy in London on May 31, Costa Rica at PPL Park in Chester, Pennsylvania on June 6, and Portugal at Metlife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey on June 10.
Any appearances by Keane for Ireland will likely conflict with preparation for Galaxy matches as LA face Philadelphia Union on May 25, Chicago Fire on June 1, and Chivas USA on June 8. When asked by LA Galaxy Insider about Keane's status, Galaxy head coach Bruce Arena said that he'd be speaking to Ireland coach Martin O'Neill about releasing Keane admitting that it was odd that he was called up.
"I'll be speaking to Ireland's coach later this week," said Arena.
LA Galaxy forward Landon Donovan is currently away on international duty but before he departed for U.S. National Team, he spoke with SB Nation in an interesting interview about his hopes to make the U.S. World Cup roster.
The winner of Wednesday night's U.S. Open Cup second round match between LA Galaxy II and Cal FC now know who they'll be facing U.S. Adult Soccer Association club PSA Elite in the third round of the tournament.
