CARSON, Calif. -- LA Galaxy II returned to winning ways on Saturday with their 3-1 victory over the Orange County Blues and on Tuesday, two players were honored by being named to the USL PRO Team of the Week.
Forward Chandler Hoffman earned his second Team of the Week nod while defender Daniel Steres earned his third nod. Hoffman scored his third goal in the victory, which is tops in USL PRO while Steres helped the team shut down the Blues defensively. Meanwhile, Jack McBean and Rafael Garcia were honorable mentions on the USL PRO list.
Galaxy II return to action with two away games this weekend with matches against Arizona United on April 25 and Orange County Blues FC at Anteater Stadium at UC Irvine on April 27.
Another week, another MLSsoccer.com Save of the Week nomination for LA Galaxy goalkeeper Jaime Penedo.
Penedo was nominated for his quick reaction stop of a Pedro Morales deflected shot in the first half of LA’s 2-2 draw with Vancouver Whitecaps FC.
VANCOUVER, B.C. – Dan Gargan looks like he’s here to stay on the right-side of the LA Galaxy defense.
The 31-year-old put forth another strong performance on Saturday as he notched his second assist in three starts. Gargan’s two helpers place him in a four-way tie for the team lead.
Gargan’s brightest moment came in the 38th minute when he launched a diagonal ball onto the head of Baggio Husidic who knocked it toward Stefan Ishizaki, who nodded a shot past Vancouver goalkeeper David Ousted for the game’s first goal.
“It’s something that Bruce has encouraged for me to get involved in the attack and take the space when it’s available. When that opportunity opens up, I want to do whatever I can help,”Gargan told reporters after the game. “If that’s pushing forward and being an option then great, but if nothing else, then I’d like to pull teams wide and give Robbie [Keane] and Landon [Donovan] options going forward.”
The veteran defender also excelled on the defensive side of the ball as he made five recoveries, two clearances and one interception during the draw. Despite his success, head coach Bruce Arena admitted that the Galaxy have yet to see the best that the defender has to offer.
"Dan had a solid game,” the Galaxy coach said. “We're moving him along, he needs a few games to get full match fitness, but he's doing well."
TWCSN's Kelli Tennant soldiers on with telecast despite taking a ball to the head prior to Vancouver Whitecaps match
Those Time Warner Cable SportsNet pregame and postgame shows are getting mighty interesting.
A week after Landon Donovan videobombed my own live hit during the TWCSN postgame show, Galaxy sideline reporter Kelli Tennant had a little unintentional fun of her own during the pregame show when she was knocked in the head by an errant Vancouver Whitecaps shot ahead of the LA Galaxy's 2-2 draw last Saturday. It appears that TWCSN producer Joel Bengoa attempted to block the shot from colliding with Tennant, but his outstretched arm was unable to make the stop.
Tennant's composed reaction made international news and you can see the video below.
Things are starting to come together quite well for Stefan Ishizaki and for his role in the LA Galaxy's first goal in their 2-2 draw with Vancouver Whitecaps FC on Saturday, he's been nominated for AT&T MLS Goal of the Week.
Two other former Galaxy players Ned Grabavoy and Hector Jimenez are also up for the honors.
LA Galaxy II picked up their third victory on Saturday with a 3-1 win over the Orange County Blues.
Charlie Rugg, Chandler Hoffman and Laurent Courtois all scored in the win over Los Dos' inner-state rivals.

VANCOUVER, B.C. -- Bruce Arena was left frustrated after the LA Galaxy surrendered two leads to draw Vancouver Whitecaps FC 2-2 on Saturday.
Arena's thoughts are below.
(On the draw...)
ARENA: "I was disappointed. I would have liked to have three points today. We didn't do a good job protecting the lead."
(On the play involving Leonardo and Jaime Penedo...)
ARENA: "It was just a mistake of communication. We know on this surface that we have to be smart. The ball is spinning and skipping so you just have to be safe and put the ball out of play."
(On the Galaxy midfield...)
ARENA: "For the most part our guys had a pretty good game."
(On the play of Dan Gargan...)
ARENA: "Dan had a solid game. We're moving him along, he needs a few games to get full match fitness, but he's doing well."
(On playing different teams now when league play resumes...)
ARENA: "Are we allowed to? It'll be nice at some point."
