LA Galaxy vs. Columbus Crew
The Los Angeles Galaxy started their month long home stand on a high note, defeating the visiting Columbus Crew 3-1 on Saturday, September 11, at The Home Depot Center. Kicks for Kids groups such as Boys Town California, The Salvation Army-LA Red Shield Youth & Community Center, Santa Ana Police Athletic & Activities League, Hawaiian Gardens Skills for Life After-School Program, and LA’s Best were some of the groups who filled the stands and cheered their team onto victory.
The high scoring game kept all the Kicks for Kids groups on the edge of their seats with their towels ready to wave high in the air. Scoring two goals in the first half, the first in the 13th minute by Galaxy forward Edson Buddle and the second in the 35th minute by Galaxy midfielder Dema Kovalenko, the groups were confident their team would hold onto the lead and get the win. To the delight of all the Kicks for Kids groups, the goals kept coming, as Galaxy midfielder Jovan Kirovski scored and the Galaxy were up 3-0 in the 55th minute of the game.
With a victory in sight, the Kicks for Kids groups got an extra special treat in the 70th minute of the game, the return of Galaxy midfielder David Beckham, making his first 2010 appearance since recovering from a torn Achilles tendon. While the Columbus Crew was able to sneak in one goal, scored by Crew forward Andrew Mendoza in the 85th minute, it was too late, and the home team got the win with a final score of 3-1. The LA Galaxy Foundation would like to thank its Kicks for Kids Community Partner for their generous donations and making Saturday’s game enjoyable for all who participated!
