Report: Beckham-to-Tottenham loan not dead
The LA Galaxy’s David Beckham may yet still join English Premier side Tottenham Hotspur on a two-month loan.
Following Tottenham’s 3-0 win over Charlton in the FA Cup on Sunday evening, Spurs boss Harry Redknapp said he’s still “hopeful” that the club could still bring the 35-year-old midfielder to White Hart Lane.
“Hopefully it could still happen,” Redknapp told media, according to the Associated Press. “The situation is ongoing.”
Redknapp’s comments were a different tune than the one he had sung just hours earlier, when he had indicated that the Beckham deal was a “no-goer.”
“I don’t think it’s going to happen,” Redknapp had told SkySports News. “It would have been good to have him here available to play for us, but it couldn't happen. …It's not a problem, you just get on with it."
Instead, Beckham would only train with Tottenham until Feb. 10 to keep fit before returning to Los Angeles for the Galaxy's preseason, said a statement issued on the English club’s website.
Beckham will start training with the London-based club this week. The Galaxy haven’t officially confirmed anything regarding the loan deal, but have stated they want their star back by the start of the MLS season.
