LA Galaxy beat Canada’s U-23 National Team, 4-0

Lopez, Magee, Kirovski and Cristman all score goals

CARSON,
Calif.
- The LA Galaxy finished a week of training by beating Canada’s U-23 National
Team in a training game, 4-0, on Friday at The Home Depot Center.

Newcomer
Miguel Lopez opened the scoring account just 15 minutes into the game. His
tally was followed by goals from Mike Magee, Jovan Kirovski and Adam Cristman.
Add in some timely saves by Josh Saunders and Brian Perk, and the Galaxy recorded
their fourth shutout win of the preseason.

The game,
the second in three days for the club, featured players that didn’t play or
didn’t see significant minutes in San
Diego on Wednesday. Those that did play 60 minutes or
more against Club Tijuana trained separately on the adjacent field including
Juan Pablo Angel, David Beckham, Chris Birchall, Landon Donovan, Omar Gonzalez,
Sean Franklin, Juninho and Leonardo.

Lopez, who
played eight minutes against Tijuana, started
against Canada
and gave the Galaxy a 1-0 lead with a long-range shot from outside the 18-yard
box. The ball, which deflected off of a defender en route to the back of the
net, was given to Lopez by Bryan Jordan, who assisted on two goals in the win.

After the
goal, the Galaxy took control of the match. In the 38th minute, they took
command of the scoreboard. Magee gave the Galaxy a 2-0 lead by heading in a perfectly
placed cross from Frankie Hejduk. Jordan was credited with an assist
on the play as well.

In the
second half, it didn’t take the Galaxy very long to add to their tally, with
Kirovski making it 3-0 just seven minutes into the half.

After the
goal, the Galaxy made four substitutions, including Perk for Saunders, Paolo
Cardozo for Magee, Dustin McCarty for Hejduk and Jack McBean for Lopez. This
was on top of three changes the coaching staff made to the lineup for the start
of the second half— Hector Jimenez for Jordan, Sean Alvarado for A.J. DeLaGarza
and Adam Cristman for Chad Barrett.

McBean,
making his first appearance with the Galaxy, created two quality goal scoring
chances in his short time on the field.

Cristman
rounded out the scoring with a goal in the 86th minute.
