CARSON, Calif.LA Galaxy midfielder Landon Donovan was named today to U.S. National Team head coach Bob Bradley’s 23-man roster for the upcoming CONCACAF Gold Cup, as well as the friendly against Spain in Foxborough, Mass. on Saturday, June 4. Donovan, who has 130 caps and 45 goals in his 12-year international career, has helped the U.S. win the Gold Cup three times, claiming the title in 2002, 2005 and 2007. Donovan will join the rest of his National Team teammates for the start of their training camp in Cary, N.C. after the Galaxy’s game at New England on Saturday, May 28.

The CONCACAF Gold Cup will begin on Sunday, June 5 at Cowboys Stadium in Dallas before culminating with the tournament final on Saturday, June 25 at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, Calif. The U.S. will play in Group C, where they will face Canada at Ford Field in Detroit on Tuesday, June 7, Panama at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Fla. on Saturday, June 11 before wrapping up group play against Guadeloupe at LIVESTRONG Park in Kansas City, Kan.

This is the fifth time in Donovan’s international career, which began in 2000, that he has been named to the U.S. roster for the Gold Cup. He made his tournament debut in 2002, scoring in his first game at the tournament against South Korea, while helping the U.S. win the tournament that year for the first time since 1991. He was also a part of the U.S. teams at the 2003, 2005 and 2007 Gold Cups, helping the U.S. win the tournament in 2005 and 2007 while claiming a third place finish in 2003. He has a U.S. record 12 career goals in 22 appearances, leaving him one game shy of tying Kasey Keller for the most Gold Cup appearances in U.S. history.

Prior to leaving for the Gold Cup, Donovan, who has an MLS-best seven goals and an assist in nine games for the Galaxy this season, is scheduled to play in two more games for his club beginning with Wednesday night’s game at home against the Houston Dynamo. If Donovan and the U.S. reach the Gold Cup Final, he will miss all four games that the Galaxy are scheduled to play during the month of June. Since the start of the 2009 season, Donovan has missed a total of 15 regular season games for LA because of international duty or injury. In those 15 games, the Galaxy are 7-5-3 in those 15 games, including a 1-1-2 mark this season.

Wednesday night’s game against the Dynamo kicks off at 7:30 p.m. and can be seen live on Prime Ticket starting with the Galaxy Live pregame show at 7 p.m. For more information about this game and to purchase tickets, please visit www.lagalaxy.com.
