Donovan: I feel more prepared this time with Everton
LA Galaxy star Landon Donovan arrived in Liverpool on Wednesday to begin his two-month loan stint with Everton.
His first chance to play for the Toffees won't come until next week, when Bolton come to Goodison Park, but he says he's ready to go.
"I am really excited to get back here and play," he was quoted as saying in the Mirror. "Since being here the first time, I've played in a World Cup and had another couple of years' experience, so I feel more prepared this time."
Donovan also went on loan to Everton in early 2010. He played 13 matches and scored two goals, becoming a fan favorite at Goodison.
"I know exactly what I am getting into and exactly what is expected of me and hopefully I can fit in," Donovan continued. "Sometimes I think life is about expectations. Last time, there was zero expectations so I can only make up from that. I understand there is some level of pressure and expectation but all footballers deal with that. I don't worry about that. I want to enjoy my two months here, and the way I play I think I can help the team."
Everton have been struggling to find consistent form this season. They currently sit in 10th place with 21 points from 17 matches. Manager David Moyes, who spoke to MLSsoccer.com's ExtraTime Radio podcast recently, is looking forward to having Donovan back in the squad.
"He looked fine in training," Moyes said on Friday. "He doesn't carry any weight and looks in good shape so hopefully we'll try to give him a good four or five days' training and see how he is for next week. It is hard to judge on one morning but we will get him up and running. We have a great set of boys who will make it easy to settle in. Creatively we hope he will make us some goals but he is not a prolific goalscorer."
