VANCOUVER, Canada— LA Galaxy forward Chad Barrett is off to Norway.

After tallying goal and three assists in 18 MLS appearances this season with the Galaxy, the forward is off to Norway for a week-long trial with Oslo-based club Vålerenga. Barrett—who did not travel with the Galaxy on their Pacific Northwest road swing—announced the trial on his Twitter account on Tuesday afternoon.

“I have been allowed by the club to go on trial with Vålerenga IF here in Oslo in search to possibly take my game abroad,” Barrett said on Twitter. “I am extremely thankful for the opportunity and chance to see what may come of it.”

Following the Galaxy’s training session at BC Place ahead of Wednesday’s match against the Vancouver Whitecaps, head coach Bruce Arena declined to comment on the forward’s trial, but Barrett’s teammates were quick to voice their support of the move.

“It was a good opportunity for him and he’s out of contract at the end of the year so it was a chance for him to go look at the team and have the team look at him and see if he wants to stay there,” Galaxy midfielder Landon Donovan told reporters. “We’re all hopeful that it works out for him. Obviously, we miss him, but that’s the way that the business goes.”

Barrett will trial with a club that has won the Norwegian Tippeligaen five-times, but is currently in sixth place as the league prepares to begin the second half of the season.

While all of Barrett’s teammates were supportive of his Norwegian journey, no one was more “disappointed” at forward’s potential departure than goalkeeper Josh Saunders, who is Barrett’s roommate on the road.

“I was bummed, he’s obviously a very good friend of mine, but at the same time, he’s got to do what’s best for him at the end of the day,” Saunders told LAGalaxy.com following training on Tuesday. “Playing on a consistent basis is the best way for him to get better and to show his skills. I wish him the best, if things work out then great, but if not then we’ll see him when he gets back and I’d love for him to get back.”
