LA Galaxy Academy Update - March 13
CARSON, Calif. (Tuesday, March 11, 2013) – The LA Galaxy Academy U-13’s will face Real So Cal in the semifinals of the 2013 U.S. Youth Soccer Cal South National Cup this Saturday in Rancho Capistrano at 1 p.m.
Led by head coach Braeden Cloutier, the Galaxy U-13’s have outscored their opposition 27-2 so far in the competition. They finished the group stage first in Group A by winning all four games by a combined score of 22-0, including a 10-0 win over CZ Elite Soccer in their opening game. That win was followed by a 5-0 victory over Crescenta Valley Soccer Club and a 6-0 win over Pateadores MV before closing out group play with a 1-0 win over Fullerton Rangers.
In the Round of 16, the Galaxy beat Torrance-based Beach FC North 5-2 to advance to the quarterfinals, where they outlasted Pateadores-San Diego in order to reach the semifinals, winning 3-2 on penalty kicks after the game was tied 0-0 in regulation.
Their opponent in the semifinals, Real So Cal have also been dominant in the competition thus far, outscoring their opponents 25-4. They made it to the semis by finishing first in Group H and then beating Notts Forest FC 5-1 in the round of 16 and FC Golden State-Gold in the quarterfinals.
If the Galaxy win on Saturday, they will face the winner of Pateadores-LA vs. FC Golden State-Academy in Sunday’s championship game at 11 a.m. on Field 5 of the Rancho Capistrano Soccer Fields, located at 29251 Camino Capistrano, San Juan Capistrano, Calif.
The winner of the 2013 Cal South National Cup advances to the U.S. Youth Soccer National Championship – Region IV Championships, scheduled to be played from June 17-23 in Honolulu, Hawaii. The 2013 U.S. Youth Soccer National Championships will be played July 22-28 in Overland Park, Kansas.
GALAXY U-16 and U-18 TEAMS TRAVEL NORTH: For their final road trip of the 2012/13 U.S. Soccer Development Academy season, the LA Galaxy will travel to Northern California this weekend to take on the San Jose Earthquakes Academy and Cal Odyssey Academy.
The Galaxy U-18’s enter the weekend’s matches looking to keep up in the standings with Real So Cal and Real Salt Lake-Arizona, both of whom are ahead of the Galaxy (11-4-3 record, 36 pts.) in the Southwest Division. Playing outside of Southern California for the final time this year, the Galaxy will take on a San Jose team that has won just one of their last five games while Cal Odyssey enter the weekend in last place in the Northwest Division and in the midst of a nine-game losing streak.
The Galaxy U-16’s will also be looking to make up some ground in the standings heading into the final two months of the regular season. Winless in their last four games, the Galaxy are 4-7-7 on the season for 19 points and sit in seventh place in the Southwest Division. They will look to make up ground on their division rivals when they take on a pair of teams, San Jose (7-6-6, 27 points) and Cal Odyssey (4-12-3, 15 points), who are also looking to make a late season run that could get them into the playoff picture.
