LA Galaxy II defeat Arizona United SC at StubHub Center

Goals from Rugg, Jamieson IV and Auras enough for three points on the night

CARSON, Calif. (Saturday, Aug. 9, 2014) – LA Galaxy II (12-7-4, 40 points) defeated Arizona United SC Saturday night at StubHub Center as first-half goals from Charlie Rugg, Bradford Jamieson IV and Andre Auras were enough to earn three points on the evening.

Los Dos opened the scoring early, when Rugg fired a shot past Arizona goalkeeper Evan Newton to put the hosts up, 1-0. Galaxy Homegrown Player Jose Villarreal started the attack when he passed a ball across the box to find Rugg with just the keeper to beat before the striker calmly slotted it home.

Just a minute later, Galaxy II doubled the score when Homegrown Player Bradford Jamieson IV got on the end of a loose ball in the box to score with a one-touch shot. Rugg rounded the right side before an Arizona defender deflected a ball that fell to Jamieson IV, who made no mistake with his shot to add the second goal of the evening.

In the 37th minute, Los Dos added a third on a free kick from Auras. Jamieson IV made a run down the left side before cutting in and earning a foul at the edge of the 18. Auras stepped up and sent a curling shot that went in the upper right corner of the net, just past the fingertips of a diving Newton.

Arizona answered in the 60th minute when Brad Stisser found Paolo DelPiccolo for a goal. Stisser whipped in a cross to DelPiccolo, who launched a diving header past Rowe to put United on the board. Just over 10 minutes later, Arizona United added a second goal when Long Tan got on the end of a Matt Kassel free kick to put the visitors within one, but Los Dos stood firm on defense for the rest of the match to hold on for the 3-2 victory.

LA Galaxy defender Todd Dunivant, who has recently been sidelined with an abdominal injury, recorded 78 minutes for Los Dos. His last MLS minutes came April 6 against Chivas USA, but he has been a part of the LA Galaxy’s 18 man roster in the past two matches.

Curt Onalfo’s side will now travel to take on Oklahoma Energy FC at Pribil Stadium next Saturday, Aug. 16 at 5 p.m. PT.
