HOW ACQUIRED: Signed on free transfer from Hammarby on Nov. 14, 2013
The LA Galaxy signed midfielder Baggio Husidic on a free transfer from Swedish Superettan side Hammarby. The Galaxy acquired the MLS rights to Husidic as part of a trade with the Colorado Rapids.
Husidic began his professional career with the Chicago Fire in 2009 after he was selected by the club in the second round of the MLS SuperDraft. In three seasons with the Fire, Husidic appeared in 50 regular season games and two postseason games, scoring five goals and adding six assists. He set career-highs with 22 games played as well as five goals and three assists in 2010. Following the 2011 season, Husidic was selected by the Colorado Rapids in Stage 2 of the MLS Re-Entry Process, but he chose to sign in Sweden with Hammarby. He would spend two seasons with the club, appearing in 41 games in that time, scoring once while helping Hammarby finish fourth in the standings in 2012 and fifth in 2013.
Originally born in Velika Kladusa, Bosnia (when it was still a part of the former Yugoslavia), Husidic was raised Libertyville, Ill. He was a three-year star at the University of Illinois-Chicago, scoring 12 goals and adding seven assists for the Flames while helping them reach the NCAA Tournament in each of his three seasons with the team.
