With the excitement surrounding the 2010 FIFA World Cup, ESPN2 and ESPN Deportes have added the LA Galaxy match this Sunday, July 4 (10:30 p.m. ET), against Seattle Sounders FC to their regular broadcast schedule.
U.S. National Team and LA Galaxy stars Landon Donovan and Edson Buddle are expected to return to MLS play for the first time since leading the U.S. Men's National Team to a first place Group C finish and an appearance in the Round of 16 in South Africa. Donovan, who netted three goals for the United States in South Africa, is the league-leader in assists, while Buddle is the leading scorer in MLS.
The Galaxy are currently atop the League standings with a record of 10-1-3 for 33 points but will be tested by Freddie Ljungberg, U.S. World Cup veteran goalkeeper Kasey Keller, and Seattle Sounders FC.
Glenn Davis and Kyle Martino will call the Sounders FC - Galaxy match on ESPN2 and ESPN2 HD (simulcast on ESPN3.com) from The Home Depot Center in Carson, Calif. The match will be joined in progress on ESPN Deportes following the Sunday Night Baseball game.
ESPN’s presentation of the 15th season of Major League Soccer continues all summer with MLS Game of the Week on most Thursday nights, and the Manchester United vs. MLS All-Stars match later this month (Wednesday, July 28 at 8:30 p.m.) from Reliant Stadium in Houston.
Additional notes about Seattle Sounders FC at LA Galaxy match:
- It’s the second meeting of the season between the clubs, after the Galaxy rolled to an imperious 4-0 victory May 15 at Qwest Field. Landon Donovan set up LA’s first three goals and scored the final one.
- The Galaxy were shut out in back-to-back games for the first time this season with the scoreless draw at Toronto FC. They have only allowed four goals this season.
- Sounders FC still have yet to convert a penalty kick in league play in club history, after Pat Noonan’s attempt was stopped by Philadelphia’s Chris Seitz. It was Seattle’s first penalty this season; Freddie Ljungberg and Fredy Montero were both unsuccessful in the club’s inaugural season.
