LA Galaxy complete trade with Portland Timbers

CARSON, Calif. (Monday, November 22, 2010) – The LA Galaxy today acquired allocation money from the expansion Portland Timbers in exchange for an international player roster slot.


The Timbers, who will be one of two expansion teams, along with the Vancouver Whitecaps, to join MLS in 2011, will receive one of the Galaxy’s eight international player slots for the 2011 and 2012 MLS seasons in exchange for the allocation money. After the 2012 season, the roster spot will revert back to the Galaxy.


The Galaxy travel to Australia on Tuesday for The Qantas Challenge, which will see the club take on the Newcastle Jets in a friendly at EnergyAustralia Stadium on Saturday night in Newcastle, Australia. The game will be shown live in the United States on Fox Soccer Channel, with coverage starting at midnight and the game kicking off at 12:30 a.m. on Saturday, November 27.
