LA Galaxy Sign New Two-Year Agreement With ESPN Deportes Radio to Broadcast All Games

CARSON, Calif.–The LA Galaxy and ESPN Deportes KWKW 1330 AM announced today that the two sides have agreed to a new two-year deal. The deal ensures that ESPN Deportes KWKW 1330 AM, a radio partner of the Galaxy since 2008, will continue to broadcast Galaxy games to the Southland in Spanish through the end of the 2012 season.

"We are very pleased to be able to broadcast the excitement of Galaxy on KWKW ESPN Deportes for the next two years,” said Jim Kalmenson, President of KWKW Radio. “Latino soccer fans are extremely passionate about the Galaxy games, always wanting the latest and most up-to-date news, and this new agreement should further solidify our station as the go-to place for Galaxy information.”

ESPN Deportes KWKW 1330 AM is the most popular Spanish sports station in the United States and has been continuously owned by Lotus Communications Corporation since 1962. In addition to being the home of the Galaxy, the station is also the flagship station of the Los Angeles Lakers, Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, San Diego Chargers and UCLA basketball and football. The station is a tremendous vehicle into Los Angeles’ proud Spanish-speaking community.

“KWKW ESPN Deportes has been the home of the LA Galaxy in Spanish for the last three years and we are happy to have them continue to be the home of the Galaxy for the next two years,” said LA Galaxy President Tom Payne. “ESPN Deportes has been a great partner and have long been the Spanish language leader in Los Angeles sports radio. We look forward to another great year with the station and to hearing Rolando and Armando call all the action all season long.”

KWKW 1330 AM and sister station KWKU 1220 AM in Pomona will broadcast all 34 of the Galaxy’s regular season schedule in 2011, and more, starting with tonight’s season opener against the Seattle Sounders FC at Qwest Field.

Included in the deal is the return of “Puro Galaxy,” an hour-long weekly radio show that gives listeners an inside look at the club and provides exclusive interviews in Spanish. This season, “Puro Galaxy” will air every Sunday from 4:30-5:30 p.m.

The Spanish-language broadcast booth will be comprised of Rolando “El Veloz” Gonzalez and Armando Aguayo for the third straight season, with Gonzalez handling the play-by-play duties and Aguayo serving as the color commentator. Known as “El Veloz” for his rapid-fire play-by-play style, Gonzalez, the original Spanish-voice of the Galaxy, brings with him to the booth more than 45 years of broadcasting experience.

In addition to calling all Galaxy games, the pair will also host 30-minute pregame and postgame shows before and after every Galaxy game. Aguayo, on top of his game day duties, will once again serve as host of “Puro Galaxy.”
