stephens vs rsl

A second year midfielder who was selected by the Galaxy in the first round of the 2010 MLS SuperDraft, Michael Stephens played in 25 games as a rookie last season, recording eight assists, which were more than any Galaxy rookie in a decade.

A fixture in Bruce Arena’s starting XI for much of the 2010 season, we helped prepare the Naperville, Ill. native for a spot in this year’s starting XI by asking him our First XI, a series of 11 hard-hitting questions designed to help you get to know the real Michael Stephens.

Best goal you’ve scored: My first goal with the Galaxy against the Crew last year. It was my first professional goal.

Best soccer memory: Probably my debut for the Galaxy.

Toughest opponent that you’ve ever faced: Real Madrid

Favorite stadium: The Home Depot Center, for sure.

Favorite pregame meal: Subway. Foot long turkey on wheat with everything.

Funniest teammate: Brian Perk. I spend the most time with him.

Worst dressed teammate: I don’t think I have much room to talk there. On a game day last year, I wore a plaid shirt and everyone thought it was so ugly that it got hung up from the ceiling of the locker room.

Best dressed teammate: Omar Gonzalez

Favorite sport to play other than soccer: Basketball. I play with Omar Gonzalez and Mike Magee and both of them are good.

Favorite restaurant: A new sushi place called Sugarfish in Marina del Rey

Career if you were not playing soccer professionally: I’d still be a student.
