CARSON, Calif. -Chivas USA defeated the LA Galaxy3-1 in an MLS Reserve League match on Tuesday at The Home Depot Center’s Track and Field Stadium.  Rookie Victor Estupiñan scored two first half goals for Chivas USA, while fellow rookie Hector Jimenez scored for the LA Galaxy.

The match was very open in the first half, with both teams creating several good chances.  Estupiñan opened the scoring in the 31st minute, collecting a pass from midfielder Gerson Mayén and rounding Galaxy goalkeeper Josh Saunders to tap into an empty net.

Hector Jimenez leveled the game for the Galaxy, rising to head home an Adam Cristman cross in the 35th minute.  But Chivas USA struck back instantly, in the 36th minute.  Francisco Mendoza played a through ball for Estupiñan, who beat the Galaxy offside trap and found himself in a one-on-one with Saunders.  The Ecuadorian rookie finished calmly, putting his shot into the lower left corner.

The game slowed down a bit in the second half as temperatures soared into the mid-eighties.  Gerson Mayén was active and sharp for Chivas USA all game, and created the final goal in the 63rd minute.  Mayén lobbed a through ball to Chris Cortez, who took a touch in the box, beat 16-year-old Galaxy defender Matt Tilley, and finished easily.

Chivas USA Reserves will play Seattle Sounders Reserves at Seattle in their next match, while the LA Galaxy will play the Earthquakes on June 6th at San Jose.
