LA Galaxy Academy teams head to Texas for U.S. Soccer Development Academy Playoffs and Showcase

CARSON, Calif. (Wednesday, June 22, 2011) – The LA Galaxy U-16 and U-18 Academy teams will fly to Frisco, Texas later this week for the U.S. Soccer Development Academy Playoffs and Showcase, which will be held at Pizza Hut Park. The Galaxy U-16’s are the No. 4 seed nationally in their age group after winning the SoCal Division of the Western Conference. The Galaxy U-18’s will play at Pizza Hut Park, where they will participate in the Showcase, which will feature the 46 U-18 Development Academy teams that did not qualify for the Playoffs.


The U-16’s, who are in the playoffs for the second time in the last three years, will open their playoff schedule against the No. 25 seed, Sporting Kansas City, on Saturday, June 25. The following day, they will take on the No. 19 seed IMG Soccer Academy before concluding group play against the Houston Dynamo, who are the No. 16 seed. The winner of the group will then advance to the Development Academy Finals Week, which will be held in Milwaukee, Wisc. from July 9-16.


The Galaxy U-18’s will also play three games while in Texas, beginning with a game against the Cosmos Academy East on Friday, June 24. Their second game will be played on either Saturday, June 25 or Sunday, June 26 before rounding out the Showcase with their third and final game on Monday, June 27. The opponents for their final two matches will be decided by earlier results.
