CARSON, Calif. — Landon Donovan will miss Wednesday's All-Star Game with a calf injury, LA Galaxy officials told reporters on Sunday.

Donovan did not dress for Sunday’s World Football Challenge match between the Galaxy and Manchester City. However, he played through the injury in 90 minutes against Columbus last week and the first half of a July 16 match against Real Madrid as well.

The Galaxy captain did not train on Thursday or Saturday and took Sunday’s game in from the sidelines.

Donovan leads the Galaxy with nine goals in 14 games.

Wednesday’s match against Manchester United will feature Galaxy teammates David Beckham and Sean Franklin. Donovan, though, may still be in attendance for the game, although that decision had not immediately been made if he will travel to New York.

When he was announced as a member of the MLS First XI, Donovan had tied Eddie Pope with most All-Star Game selections with 11. This season, Donovan surpassed Jason Kreis and moved to within reach of Ante Razov on the all-time goal-scoring table, sitting in fourth place with 112 career goals.

Injuries though have cost him playing time this season with LA as Donovan missed a three-game road trip earlier in the season.

The Galaxy’s next game will be at Vancouver on July 30 followed by games at Portland on Aug. 3 and a home fixture against FC Dallas on Aug. 6, but it was not immediately known if Donovan would be available for the match against Vancouver.
