LA Galaxy Midfielder Landon Donovan Withdraws From U.S. National Team Roster

CARSON, Calif. (Sunday, February 26, 2012) – The LA Galaxy and U.S. Soccer announced today that Galaxy captain Landon Donovan has withdrawn from the U.S. squad for Wednesday’s friendly against Italy in Genoa after being diagnosed with bronchitis. Donovan missed the final game of his loan to Everton on February 18 because of the illness and has not trained with the Galaxy since returning to the U.S. a week ago.


While Donovan will miss Wednesday’s game, Galaxy teammate Edson Buddle travelled to Italy this morning ahead of the game. He will return to Southern California following the game to begin final preparations for LA’s first official match of 2012 against Toronto FC in the CONCACAF Champions League. That game will be played at 5 p.m. (PT) on Wednesday, March 7 at Rogers Center in Toronto, with the second leg being held at The Home Depot Center a week later on Wednesday, March 14. BUY TICKETS


The Galaxy open their MLS Cup title defense on Saturday, March 10 when they host Real Salt Lake at The Home Depot Center.
