Notes:
- With the draw, the Galaxy now head into the second leg of the series needing a win or a draw to advance. Any Galaxy win in the second leg, which will be played at The Home Depot Center on Wednesday, March 14, would see the Galaxy advance to the tournament semifinals, as would a 0-0 or 1-1 draw. A 2-2 draw would send the series to extra time while any higher scoring draw would see Toronto FC advance, as would a TFC victory.
- Of the 11 players that started the game for LA, nine were with the club in the Group Stage while only Andrew Boyens had never represented the Galaxy in the Champions League.
- Boyens made his LA debut in the game, playing 87 minutes in central defense before being replaced by Chad Barrett.
- Edson Buddle was the only other player to start the game for the Galaxy who was not with the club last season. He appeared in two games for LA in the Preliminary Round of the 2010/11 Champions League against Puerto Rico.
- LA were forced to play without midfielder Marcelo Sarvas and forward Pat Noonan, each of whom played for other clubs in the Group Stage of the Champions League. Sarvas played for Alajuelense and Noonan was with the Galaxy before joining the Galaxy in December.
- Ryan Johnson gave Toronto a 1-0 lead in the 12th minute, finishing off the rebound of a Torsten Frings corner kick. That was his first goal in the Champions League.
- This was just the second time in seven Champions League games that the Galaxy had conceded the first goal.
- Luis Silva doubled the Toronto lead six minutes later. The Galaxy entered the game having conceded just one first half goal to this stage of the competition.
- Mike Magee pulled a goal back for the Galaxy in the 29th minute, sending a right-footed shot past Stefan Frei from close range. The Toronto goalkeeper was able to get a hand to Sean Franklin’s cross from the right wing, but not enough to push it past Magee, whose finish made the score 2-1.
- Landon Donovan equalized for LA in the 89th minute, finishing after a scramble inside the penalty area. That was his second goal of the competition.
- Magee, Donovan and Juninho are now tied for the Champions League lead with two goals in the 2011/12 Champions League and all-time.
- A.J. DeLaGarza, Todd Dunivant and Josh Saunders each played the full 90 minutes, continuing their streak of having played in every minute of the 2011/12 Champions League.
- They were joined in the starting lineup by Landon Donovan and Mike Magee, each of whom has appeared in all seven games that the Galaxy have played in the competition with Magee starting all seven.
- Omar Gonzalez played every minute of the Galaxy’s involvement in the Group Stage, but he missed tonight’s game after undergoing surgery in January to repair a torn ACL in his left knee.
- Toronto’s Danny Kovermans and Stefan Frei were the only players for either side to be booked in the game, collecting a 56th minute yellow card. If he gets another yellow card in the rest of the competition, he will be forced to miss a game.
- The Galaxy are now 1-2-1 on the road in the 2011/12CONCACAF Champions League.
- This was their first draw of the 2011/12 Champions League.
- LA’s two away goals were their most on the road in this installment of the competition.
- The attendance for tonight’s game was 47,658 at Rogers Centre.
- The Galaxy are back in action on Saturday, March 10 when they host Real Salt Lake in their MLS regular season opener at The Home Depot Center. That game is scheduled to kick off at 7:30 p.m. with the club raising their 2011 Supporters’ Shield and MLS Cup championship banners.
- The Galaxy return to play in the CONCACAF Champions League on Wednesday, March 14 when they host Toronto FC in the second leg of their quarterfinal series at The Home Depot Center. That game will be shown live on FOX Soccer starting at 7 p.m. (PT)
