CARSON, Calif. (Friday, March 16, 2012) – The LA Galaxy U-12 Academy Team will face Nomads SC in the 2012 CAL South National Cup semifinals Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Rancho Capistrano Soccer fields in San Juan Capistrano.

After recording a 0-0 draw in their opening game of the tournament, the Galaxy have gone on a four-game winning streak to reach the semifinals. In the group stage, they tied West Coast FC in the opening game, beat DMVC Sharks 8-0 in the second game and got past FC Golden State 4-1 to advance out of Group E in first place. Last weekend, the Galaxy shutout SD Surf 2-0 and FC Golden State White 4-0 in the Round of 16 and Quarterfinals, respectively. The team has only allowed one goal in the tournament, so far.

This is the first year the club has played in the National Cup at the U-12 level.

The finals of the 32-team tournament are set to be played this Sunday at Aliso Niguel High School at 9 a.m.

The National Cup has been held annually since 1978, and is the primary springboard for the US Youth Soccer National Championship Series. The winner of the National Cup will advance to the US Youth Soccer Far West Regionals in June, with the winner of that advancing to the US Youth Soccer National Championships, which are set to be played July 25-29 in Rock Hill, S.C.
