CARSON, Calif.— Just as school is letting out for the summer, the MLS season is hitting full swing.
The LA Galaxy offer a way for fans to get into the spirit of the season with a variety of youth summer soccer camps options. The camps are run by LA Galaxy Academy coaches, former MLS players as well as top amateur coaches from around Southern California. Campers make use of the Galaxy’s various top-notch facilities as part of the experience and run through drills and exercises put together by the club’s Academy coaching staff. Ranging from the youngest soccer beginner to those looking for a taste of the MLS experience, the fun environment of LA Galaxy summer soccer camps has a variety of options.
For the youngest kids, the Galaxy offer the Little Kickers camps. Designed for boys and girls 5-6 years old, these camps focus on building fundamental skills while keeping a focus on the fun side of the game. Players will get a chance to play in small games during the camp, which runs from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Set dates for the $115 camp are June 18 – 21, July 16 – 19, Aug. 6 – 9 and Aug. 20 – 23. REGISTER
The LA Galaxy’s Half Day camps feature technical drill work for campers 7-14 years old. From 9 a.m. to noon, Half Day campers will be challenged to master basic passing, dribbling and shooting skills through technical and tactical drills. Currently scheduled for June 18 – 21, July 16 – 19, Aug. 6 – 9 and Aug. 20 – 23, Half Day camps cost $225. REGISTER
Those looking for a more complete experience can sign up for one of the Galaxy’s Full Day camps. Campers receive a mixture of instruction and game action during the 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. sessions. Each morning is filled with individual drills and skill work, before giving way to games in the afternoon where the instruction and techniques learned in the morning can be put into play. This format provides campers with development in a number of individual areas while also keeping the atmosphere fun with team play. Open to both boys and girls from 8-16 years old, Full Day camps are currently scheduled for June 18 – 21, July 16 – 19, Aug. 6 – 9 and Aug. 20 – 23. Full Day camps cost $395. REGISTER
The Galaxy offer one camp tailored specifically to players at either end of a team’s formation. The only positional specific camp, the Galaxy’s Striker/Goalkeeper camp sessions provide an opportunity to sharpen skills for those who make a living around the goal, whether scoring goals or keeping them out. Strikers will receive training focused on making them more comfortable and accurate in front of the goal, building the skills to be an effective scorer. Goalkeepers will work on decision-making and shot-stopping techniques. The position-specific camps are currently scheduled for June 18 – 21, July 16 – 19, Aug. 6 – 9 and Aug. 20 – 23. Open to keepers and strikers 8-16 years old, the cost of the full day camp is $595. REGISTER
Galaxy Elite camps provide a chance for higher-level players to work on their skills in a demanding and challenging environment. Geared towards players who are striving for futures in collegiate and professional soccer, Galaxy Elite camps focus on fine-tuning skills both mentally and physically. These camps are open to both boys and girls ages 10-17. Currently scheduled for June 25 – 29, July 30 – August 3 and August 13 – 17, the cost is $1,025 for a residential player and $795 for a commuter. REGISTER
The experience of being an MLS player is available to those participating in Galaxy’s Youth Fantasy camps. Participants in these camps will see everything that the club and The Home Depot Center has to offer. From a personalized Galaxy jersey to training on the same fields as the first squad, Fantasy campers of all ages can get the feeling of playing in the MLS. For those 8-16 years old, the camp will cost $1,095 and be held July 1-5. REGISTER
