WATCH: Saunders comes up huge

The California Clasico was a big enough occasion even before it became a thrilling 4-3 win for the San Jose Earthquakes, but Chris Wondolowski & Co. could have heaped on more hurt if not for a series of stunning stops by LA Galaxy 'keeper Josh Saunders, stops that have earned him Week 17 Save of the Week honors.

WIth the score tied at 3-3 in the 52nd minute, a flicked header from Stephen Lenhart found its way to the feet of Wondolowski, who swiveled and squeezed off a low point-blank shot that forced Saunders into a diving save. The rebound, however, fell to the feet of Rafael Baca, who fired a shot that forced Saunders into another diving save, this time the opposite way.

But there was one more save to make before LA's ordeal ended, as Wondolowski lunged at yet another rebound that Saunders did well to smother and avert disaster.

Despite an unflattering final scoreline, Saunders' heroics finished with 46 percent of the vote, more 26 points ahead of second place finisher Sean Johnson.
