LA Galaxy and AEG Donate New Grass Soccer Field to Sunrise Elementary School and Weingart East Los Angeles YMCA

CARSON, Calif. (Monday, September 17, 2012) – Fulfilling a commitment made by AEG and the LA Galaxy last November ahead of the club’s 2011 MLS Cup championship, the Galaxy and AEG have donated a new soccer and sports field that will be shared by the adjoining Weingart East Los Angeles YMCA and Sunrise Elementary School.

In partnership with Partnership LA, installation of the brand new 35,000 square foot Tifway Bermuda Grass field has just completed. To commemorate the donation and installation, current Galaxy players Sean Franklin, Bryan Jordan and Josh Saunders, as well as former Galaxy All-Star and 2002 FIFA World Cup veteran Clint Mathis, will be on-hand to conduct a soccer clinic with 80 children from Sunrise Elementary School on Tuesday afternoon.

The Weingart East Los Angeles YMCA currently teaches physical education to more than 600 Sunrise Elementary School (adjacent to the YMCA) students on a daily basis on what up until now, was a poorly kept field with unkempt patches of grass, large areas of dirt only and an unlevel surface. The Weingart East Los Angeles YMCA will use the newly installed soccer field for their after school soccer and football programs.
