CARSON, Calif. (Thursday, September 27, 2012) – LA Galaxy U-14 forward Salvador “Chava” Segura continued his tremendous start to the 2012 season, scoring five times on Saturday to help his side to a convincing 7-1 win over Legends FC. After missing all of last season with a pair of arm injuries, the 13-year-old from Bell Gardens now has a team-best nine goals on the season, leading his team to a perfect 3-0-0 record.

Jesus Nunez and Leonardo Zulli each added goals in Saturday’s win over Legends.

The Galaxy U-18’s also saw one of their forwards play a starring role on Saturday as Jack McBean scored twice, including a dramatic winner in the 90th minute, as the Galaxy beat Arsenal FC 3-2. McBean, who had given LA a 2-1 lead in the 53rd minute, secured all three points for his side with his third goal of the season in the game’s closing moments, helping the Galaxy improve to 2-0-1 on the season.

LA trailed 1-0 at the half before Raul Mendiola scored his first goal of the season just a minute after the break. After McBean put LA in front, Eduardo Martinez equalized for Arsenal, scoring his second goal of the game in the 65th minute, tying the score at 2-2. The game, which was a physical affair that saw three players Arsenal and one from the Galaxy get booked, appeared to be destined to finish as a draw before McBean stepped up to score the winner.

There were no late heroics for the Galaxy U-16’s as they suffered their first loss of the season, falling 2-1 to Arsenal FC. Christian Chavez scored LA’s only goal, tying the score at 1-1 in the 13th minute, just one minute after Arsenal had pulled in front. The score would stay that way until the 52nd minute when Arsenal’s Jonathan Mendiola, the younger brother of Galaxy U-18 midfielder Raul Mendiola, scored the eventual game-winner.

In the two youngest age groups in action on Saturday, the Galaxy U-13’s claimed a 2-0 win over Beach FC while the U-12’s drew 1-1 with Santa Barbara SC. Angel Flacco and Jose Ortiz, who has now scored in each of his last two games, each tallied for the U-13’s while Mateo Godoy scored the only goal for the U-12’s.

Three of the Galaxy’s six Academy teams are in league action this weekend, with all three playing on Saturday. The U-12’s host Galaxy Alliance partner South Bay Force at El Segundo High at 10:25 a.m., the U-13’s travel to Oaks Christian High in Westlake Village to take on Real So Cal at 6:15 p.m. and the U-15’s take on Exiles SC at L.A. Harbor College in Wilmington at 8 a.m. The U-14’s are not in league action, but play two games in an SCDSL Showcase Event at Rancho Mission Viejo Riding Park on Sunday.
