CARSON, Calif. (Friday, September 28, 2012) – Two LA Galaxy Academy players have traveled to Alicante, Spain with the U.S. Under-17 National Team to compete in the 2012 AGS Cup. Midfielder Rolando Muñoz and defender Jorge Miranda, currently part of U.S. Soccer’s 2012 Residency Program in Bradenton, Florida, were among the 20 players named by head coach Richie Williams to take on Azerbaijan, Georgia and the United Arab Emirates in Group B of the tournament.

The U.S. opens the tournament on Saturday, Sept. 29, against Azerbaijan before facing Georgia the following day. They will then conclude group play on Monday, Oct. 1 against the United Arab Emirates.

Following the group stage, the U.S will play in a playoff match against a team from Group A, which features Canada, Mexico, Morocco and Russia. Depending on their seeding, the U.S. will play their playoff game on either Oct. 3 or 4 before finishing the tournament with a placement match on Oct. 6.

Muñoz, a member of the club’s U-16 team last year, and Miranda, who joined the Academy this summer, are part of the U.S. U-17 squad that is preparing for next year’s CONCACAF U-17 Championship, which will be held in Panama in April 2013.
