The LA Galaxy season may be over, but LA Galaxy Insider Adam Serrano will spend the next few weeks offering an evaluation of each member of the squad. VIEW CALENDAR

The LA Galaxy Player Ratings will begin with players who appeared in the least number of games this season starting with goalkeeper Brian Rowe and concluding with Sean Franklin who played in all 34 of the club’s regular season games. There will also be an evaluation of head coach and general manager Bruce Arena and his moves at the conclusion of the list.
We will have two to three evaluations per day and focus on what each player did well, what they need to improve on ahead of next season as well as a select thought from the player on their performance and a rating from myself out of four stars.

CHAD BARRETT

AGE: 27

POSITION: Forward

APPEARANCES IN ALL OFFICIAL COMPETITIONS: GP: 21 [2 in CONCACAF Champions League, 1 in U.S. Open Cup], MIN: 750, G: 1, A: 4 [1 in U.S. Open Cup]

RESERVE LEAGUE APPEARANCES: GP: 3, MIN: 264, G: 3, A: 0

Highlights: LA vs Philly, July 4

HIGHLIGHTS: Throughout his 21 appearances with the Galaxy in 2012, Chad Barrett saw himself play the role of distributor rather than goal scorer. During his 750 minutes of action, Barrett notched four assists as he was frequently tasked with helping create offense late in games during LA’s early season tumult.  The 27-year-old’s lone goal came in LA’s 2-1 defeat to the Philadelphia Union on July 4. In search of more playing time, Barrett departed for Norwegian club Vålerenga on July 31.

LOWLIGHTS: Although Barrett was able rack up a number of appearances, the forward made just eight starts during his time with the Galaxy as his scoring struggles prevented him from becoming a regular in the starting XI. Once Barrett departed for Norway, he found playing time difficult to come by with The Bohemians as he made just five appearances registering just a single assist during his time in Scandinavia.

HIS THOUGHTS: “These guys are like my family. I wanted to spend one last day with them and it was great to be able to practice with them and knock the ball around one last time. I wish them all the best; I know that they’re going to win it again this year especially with the way that they’ve been playing.” – Barrett on July 31 before departing for Norway.

RATING: ONE AND A HALF STARS
It was a trying year for Barrett, who struggled to find playing time with the Galaxy and Vålerenga. However, the forward’s unique ability to hold up the ball and create chances makes him a potential valuable commodity. With his contract completed, Barrett was made available for the MLS Re-Entry Draft and was selected with the fourth pick in Stage Two by the New England Revolution. The Revs have tendered an offer to Barrett, who appears destined for a spell in New England unless opportunities in Europe arise.
