CARSON, Calif. (Wednesday, April 3, 2013) – LA Galaxy forward Mike Magee was voted the Major League Soccer’s Player of the Month for the month of March by the North American Soccer Reporters (NASR). The leading goal scorer in MLS, Magee scored five times in four league games for LA during the month of March, including a hat trick in the club’s season opening win over the Chicago Fire on March 3.

In addition to his three goals against the Fire, Magee also scored the game-winning goal in LA’s 1-0 home win over Colorado on March 23 and also scored his team’s first goal in the 2-2 draw at Toronto FC last weekend.

“It is a tremendous honor to be voted the MLS Player of the Month and to do so while wearing an LA Galaxy jersey makes it that much better,” Magee said. “I have had a successful start to the season and more importantly, so has our team and I look forward to helping to continue that success starting tonight against Monterrey.”

This is the first time in his 11-year MLS career that Magee has been selected as the MLS Player of the Month. He has twice been selected as the league’s Player of the Week, including in Week 1 of the 2013 season following his hat trick against Chicago.

Magee and the Galaxy are back in action tonight when they host Monterrey in the first leg of their CONCACAF Champions League semifinal at The Home Depot Center. That game kicks off at 7 p.m. The second leg of the aggregate goal series will be played at Estadio Tecnologico in Monterrey, Mexico on Wednesday, April 10. That game will also kick off at 7 p.m. (PT) and will be shown live nationally in English on FOX Soccer.
