Resolution on Omar Gonzalez Designated Player speculation may come within the week

CARSON, Calif. – Speculation surrounding Omar Gonzalez and the possibility of him becoming the LA Galaxy’s third Designated Player has drawn considerable buzz over the past week, and it appears that it may be approaching a resolution.

During the Galaxy’s training session on Wednesday, LA head coach and general manager Bruce Arena as well as Gonzalez himself addressed the issue, with Arena saying that something may be finalized within a week.

“Remains to be seen,” said Arena on the conversations with Gonzalez. “I think that we’re hoping to get something finalized by the end of this week.”

Meanwhile, Gonzalez admitted that talks continue to go on between him and the club that he has played for since 2009.

“I would love to stay here. We’ve been talking back and forth,” said Gonzalez. “The talks are continually going, but we’ve done some great things here together with the Galaxy. Right now, my focus is going on getting a third consecutive championship. “

As for any desire to head for Europe, Gonzalez is interested in testing himself abroad, but he believes that will happen in time.

“At some point, yeah. Whether it be at the end of the year or later or three years from now,” said Gonzalez.” That’s yet to be known, for now my focus is here. At some point, I think that I  do want to go to Europe, but it has to be the right time.  I’m still trying to figure that out.”
