CARSON, Calif. (Tuesday, September 3, 2013) – LA Galaxy forward Robbie Keane has been selected by the North American Soccer Reporters (NASR) as the MLS Player of the Week for Week 27 of the MLS season. Keane set up the Galaxy’s opening goal and then scored on either side of halftime in their 3-0 win over San Jose on Saturday, giving him 12 goals and 10 assists on the season. This is the second time that Keane has been selected as the league’s Player of the Week this season, having also won the award in Week 25 when he recorded a hat trick against Real Salt Lake, and the third time that a Galaxy player won the award during the month of August.

Keane, who had never won the Player of the Week award in MLS before this season, set up what would prove to be the game-winning goal in LA’s comprehensive 3-0 win over the Earthquakes at StubHub Center on Saturday night, drawing a pair of San Jose defenders toward him before clipping a pass in behind the defense, allowing Landon Donovan to race in alone on goal and score, giving the Galaxy a 1-0 lead in the 26th minute.

Just before halftime, Keane converted a penalty kick that sent LA into the halftime break with a 2-0 advantage. He then scored his second of the game and 12th of the season in the 67th minute, volleying a shot past Jon Busch from the center of the penalty area after being set up by Sean Franklin. This was Keane’s MLS-best fourth multi-goal game of the season and moved him into fourth place in the MLS scoring charts this season.

The only player with 10 or more goals and assists in MLS this season, Keane is the just the fifth different player in Galaxy history to achieve the feat in a single season and the first to do so since 2005. He now has 15 goals in all competitions for the Galaxy this year and 30 regular season goals in 48 games since joining the club in August 2011.

The Galaxy, who will be playing without Keane, as well as Landon Donovan, Omar Gonzalez and Jaime Penedo because of international duty, will be back in action at home on Saturday, Sept. 7 at 7:30 p.m. when they host the Colorado Rapids at StubHub Center. That match, which is presented by Time Warner Cable SportsNet, will kickoff at 7:30 p.m. and can be seen live on Time Warner Cable SportsNet and Time Warner Cable Deportes.
