International Update: Ankle issue forces Keane from Germany match, Donovan goes 45 and Penedo's Panama fall

Below is a round up of how Robbie Keane, Landon Donovan and Jaime Penedo fared on international duty on Friday.

Robbie Keane was unable to suit up for Ireland’s 3-0 defeat to Germany after picking up an ankle injury earlier in the week. The 3-0 defeat eliminated Ireland from World Cup contention. Keane and Ireland will finish World Cup qualifying on Tuesday against Kazakhstan in Dublin.

Landon Donovan went 45 minutes during the U.S. National Team’s 2-0 victory over Jamaica at Sporting Park in Kansas City, Kan. Graham Zusi and Jozy Altidore scored in the victory over the Jamaicans as the U.S. sealed the top spot in the Hexagonal.  After the match, U.S. head coach Jurgen Klinsmann told reporters that Donovan’s removal was “performance based.”  The U.S. will close out the Hex in Panama on Tuesday, but Donovan will not be joining them due to an ankle injury.

*The hopes of Jaime Penedo’s Panama were placed on life support on Friday as Los Canaleros fell 2-1 on Raul Jimenez’s dramatic bicycle-kick finish in the waning moments of the game. Penedo was not without his heroics as he saved a Javier “Chicharito” Hernandez penalty kick late in the second half (video is below). All is not lost for Penedo as Panama can still earn a berth in the two-leg World Cup playoff if they defeat the U.S. and Mexico falls to Costa Rica in a match where it fails to score two goals or more.
