The visitors tried to rally in the second half as substitute Pete Caringi tallied early on but the equalizing goal never came for Energy FC and midfielder Aleksandar Đoković sealed the victory for Galaxy II with a stoppage time goal.
Sunday’s match will mark the second time that Galaxy II will face off against their rivals from Northern California in USL PRO play. Galaxy II and Sacramento Republic FC last met on Saturday, March 29 as Los Dos earned a point in a hard-fought 1-1 draw with Sacramento at StubHub Center’s Track and Field Stadium. Hoffman equalized for the home side in the 81st minute after Galaxy Homegrown Player Raul Mendiola set up the play to give the Galaxy a late draw. Mendiola now has three assists on the season, and has tallied an assist in each of the first three games for Los Dos.
Sacramento (1-0-1), who are managed by MLS' 2007 Coach of the Year Preki, will first play against the OC Blues on Saturday, April 12 before they meet the Galaxy a day later.
